"Much like anything in Aspects except "Love Changes Everything"?"
At least Aspects opened on Broadway.
Fair point.

I had to haul myself to London to see that dreadful Whistle Down The Wind. And then haul myself back to London to see the even worse The Beautiful Game.

Aspects of Love - lyrical and romantic!
Sunset Boulevard - dramatic and echoes the film noir origin.
He has some very beautiful melodies in other scores.
But the correct answer is probably Evita. Once he gained the power and name recognition to write a show without Tim Rice he really lost the ability to edit and improve the theatricality of his shows.
I think Chewy got it exactly right.
Jesus Christ Superstar
Evita
Cats
It doesn't help that Whistle received the most atrocious cast recording ever.
I listen to POTO over and over. Music of the Night is my favorite song of all-time. However, despite the weakness of the book and lyrics, Love Never Dies may have a slightly better score, because of the incredible waltzes. On the other hand, Phantom has the fake opera scores that could almost get me into liking real opera -- especially the comic scene where Carlotta croaks (literally). That music reminds me of Rossini, whom I love.
What, no votes for Starlight Express? I kid, I kid.
I'd say Aspects of Love.
Maybe because I was lucky enough to see it on Broadway about a week after it opened during a high school field trip. My classmate and I were walking by the theater at the start of a matinee a few days after it opened, and a scalper tried to pawn two prime center orchestra seats on us. We refused, but he just shrugged and gave them to us because the show was starting. Something about the music really moved me and it stayed with me. I even remember the lighting and sets clearly to this day.
