I'm thinking of seeing Wedding Singer in a couple of weeks, but judging by video previews, it looks kind of corny and cheesy, although everyone here seems to like it a lot.
Can anyone give me an example or two of some of the jokes from the show to give me an idea of what kind of humor is used in the show?
thanks!

umm...
i dont know any specific jokes, but...
theres a gay guy singing in Jewish
um, they say that no one would ever pay $3 for a cup of coffee, and to buy stock in "New Coke" (which did really badly, while the coffee, which i assume was starbucks, did awesome)
um, there are impersonators, like Ronald Reagan, Tina Turner, and some other people
and there's a joke about the girl named Julia, once she marries Glen, then her last name will be Gulia, like Julia Gulia
:)
and just stuff about cell phones and cd players coming out, and how they're almost like one thousand dollars each, and yeah
just go see the show, it is soooo funny, and a really fun time! i was pleasantly suprised, so just go see it! :) feel the WEDDING SINGER love and awesomeness!
:)
yeah, hope that helped
If i wasn;t born till the late 80's, am I probably gonna miss most of the jokes?

umm, not unless you really dont know anything that went on at all. i was born in the late 80s and i thought the show was halarious and fun! you should enjoy it!
No. They wouldn't have had gotten the show proudced if that was the case. Older tweens/teens like the show too.
I think my favorite line was...
"Did that girl from Flashdance quit Flashdancing because she had welding and sh*t to do?"
I think I almost wet myself. It may not have been that funny, but the delivery was awesome.
If you were born in/before th 80's you'll appreciate the refrences. I'm a 90's kid, and even thought I didn't get some of the jokes I still enjoyed the show.
I didn't see this show at first either because it looked corny and this really wasn't my favorite Sandler movie. However, I went to see it and totally loved it! Now, I have to listen to the cast album at least once a day. But this musical is honestly for people who were either born in the 80's, rocked the 80's wear, or remember the 80's very well. This show I absolustly loved. If you want the humor in it, check out the picture to the left of this message. It's cute, but it won't change your life :) Much love to TWS!
I laughed zero times. Okay. maybe once at the Carrie rip-off Act I finale.

Really, it's just such an awesome show. The dancing is intense, the sets are simple yet fantastic, and there are so many sight gags and hysterical jokes, it's really a joy to watch. Don't think it's corny in the least. It's just FUN.
bwayondabrain, Jewish is a religion. Hebrew is the language. Sorry, it's a common mistake but a pet peeve of mine.
Wedding Singer is great!
I loved the part when George goes into his prayer. IT'S JARED'S BAR MITZ.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I mean I laughed hysterically, maybe because I'm Jewish? I might have been the only one who liked that scene!

Well I particularly like the part where the lead guy feels his life has gone to ruin so he jumps in the dumpster, and has to be sung to to "Come out of the dumpster" or some such silliness.
It's kind of End Game (Beckett) or Oscar of Sesame Street depending on the depth of your perspective.
You do not have to understand the 80's. The younger you are the more you will enjoy the show. You know what a wedding is? that's enough.

I admire your enthusiasm, but that's not entirely true. It definitely is beneficial to have knowledge of the 80's. Billy Idol & Phillipino? Imedla Marcos & her shoes? Gigantic batteries, "minty fresh and zestfully clean", Mr. Belvedere, New Coke, Van Halen's breaking up -- there are lots of 80's jokes that you wouldn't necessarily get. I wouldn't say the younger the better. I'd say as long as you've got a standard basis on things in the 80's -- fashion, music, movies -- you're perfectly fine. But it's definitely not meant for as young as you can go.

yea, when i first saw it i had no idea who Imelda Marcos was. but i think that was the only thing i didnt get. I think its a show that can really be enjoyed at almost any age 13 or over (or so).

When I saw it the teenagers present were having the most fun, ages 13-16, particularly the girls who adored Robbie (Steve Lynch).
All of them were too young to remember the 80's but they got the wedding part and that the cast was young, talented and attractive.

i went with my high school theatre group so there was a large group of us from the ages of 14 - 18 and everyone i talked to LOVED the show. and the teachers that came along really enjoyed it too! i love stephen lynch but i dont adore him or anything and i STILL enjoyed the show! i fell in love with Julia (Laura Benanti). i think a lot of girls around 20 really can relate to her. But really, anyone can enjoy this show

I'm a late 80s kid (born in 86) but I think I unfortunately have to owe getting pretty much all the jokes to watching hours of I Love the 80s on VH1. I think if you like that show, you'll love The Wedding Singer.

Yes you definitely need to know that Filipino/Pilipino is spoken by people in the Philippines, you definitely will not get it at all.

The entire scene before and during Casualty of Love might possibly be my favorite part of the show.
Robbie: Shane, buddy, let's be honest. How 'special' is Donatella anyways? She sweats more than anybody I've ever seen. I mean, she is a sweaty, sweaty woman! And I've only known her for, about, an hour or so, but that whiny, baby talk is already driving me nuts.
Donatella: *high pitched and whiny* Shaaaane, he's hurting my feeelings!
Robbie: *equally as high pitched* Oh, I'm sowwy Donatewwa!
Love. it.
