I saw the show tonight for the second time tonight. I saw it for the first time last week and Felicia was out and Nicolette was on. Well tonight again, Felicia was out and Nicolette played Linda. In the 6 day period since I last saw the show, Nicolette's performance has grown very much. I enjoyed it much more than I did last week and today, I thought she did an excellent job. I still have to see Felicia though.
All of the other leads were in the show and everyone was great. Amy sounded a bit sick but she was great as Holly. I enjoyed Laura's performance more this time, but still think she is miscast as Julia. Stephen is great, as are Kevin, Matthew, Richard, and Rita.
Some annoying things happened tonight as well. Behind me, the girl was singing A LOT of the songs. And when she wasn't singing, she was reciting some of the script, and then telling her friend what parts she liked and didn't like. It really got on my nerves because a lot of the time, I could hear her over the actors.
Also, at the stage door, there was this group of 3, Paris Hilton-looking wannabes who brought a probably 13 year old boy with them (maybe a brother?). Well the boy kept on asking the guard, "When is the gay guy coming out?" and "Where is the gay guy?" before someone told him the character's name is George. Then the bodyguard, to my liking, said, "Kevin will be out soon, and I will tell him what you said about him." After this, the girls hid the boy behind them so that Kevin wouldn't know that he was with them so that they could get a picture with him. This was a REALLY rude kid.
Overall, I had a great time and will be back later in the month to see Cara Cooper as Holly.

"You know you should of told the people behind you to be quiet please."
As annoying as it was, I was just hoping that she'd stop, or someone else would've said something. I did do the "head turn" and gave her a dirty look a few times. I don't like people behind me in theaters (Broadway and movies) to hold a grudge against me during the show, so I kept to myself.

And people fall asleep in the front row of SWEENEY TODD.
What is your point, exactly?

The audience when I saw THE WEDDING SINGER was one of the worst I've even been with on Broadway - loud talking, multiple cell phone rings, numerous people walking in VERY late and in the middle of numbers: I think its safe to say, this isn't drawing the same audiences as FAITH HEALER...
There was also no announcement about cell phone use/candy wrappers and if any show needs it, its WEDDING SINGER.

It's really confusing as to why they don't have one - especially as they could probably think of something cutesy to say.
Though of course, I'd prefer "Turn the damn things off, it's illegal and we'll throw you out" in a really menacing voice.

I saw Cirque du Soleil's "Corteo" at Randall's Island recently, and their announcement is "Please remember to turn your cell phones back on after the show." That's funny.
And to keep on topic, I saw that 1st Act last night and the orchestra was packed. In addition to Felicia, David Josefsberg was out and Kevin Kern subbed for him.
The crowd at TWS seems young (for Broadway) to me, and not that young people are universally bad mannered, but as a general rule in my experience, the younger the crowd the louder they tend to be.

Soooo...
We should hope that the Bway shows will be populated by tht 65+ crowd who will not be able to attend shows much longer? And we should hope young people don't go to the theatre?
Brilliant.

Posted: 7/5/06 at 12:06pmWhen I saw The Wedding Singer it was also one of the worst audiences I had ever seen. I think it does attract many young fans, as well as bring the many Stephen Lynch fans to their first Broadway show. I remember hearing him in an interview before the show's run stating that he hopes that "one of my jackass fans doesn't stand up and shout "sing the gay song!""

Nah. His fans usually wait till the stagedoor to do that.
I admit that I "woo", "whoop", "woot" and holler a lot. But besides my one "woo" right after Kevin Cahoon plays the trumpet (Kevin and I have a moment, you can ask him - I wait a beat, I woo, and he looks at me and says "thank you"... I should've received a Tony for that stuff, man), I usually try to just "woo" a lot after each number or when appropriate.

Posted: 7/5/06 at 3:53pmI agree, rude audiences are universal. I had a gum snapper behind me when I saw The Wedding Singer, gave them the death look and they stopped. I had a guy talking to his wife making comments about the plotline when I went to see Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. And yes I was close to a blabbermouth when I went to see Sweeney Todd, my death look worked on that also.

The worst audience members I've ever sat beside have all been elderly. Better kids getting excited at the end of songs than two 65 year olds carrying on a conversation throughout. It's ALWAYS them. And generally, it's them with the cell phones too. During "Satellites' recently TWO elderly people in our row had them go off - one was that lovely "Fur Elise" ringtone.
Back to Wedding Singer - I actually have been lucky with that and cell phones... maybe I was there on good nights?

No one wrote that. No one implied that. No need to go there. Relax.

Posted: 7/5/06 at 4:13pmIs Felicia Finley on vacation? It seems she has been out this entire week (she was out again today at the matinee...)
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
#21re: Wedding Singer Review - July 4th
Posted: 7/5/06 at 4:14pmI don't think she's on vacation. I saw the show on Sunday and she was there.
#22re: Wedding Singer Review - July 4th
Posted: 7/5/06 at 4:19pmYeah but vacations usually are an entire show week, which is Tuesday through Sunday, so if she was on vacation, her first day off would have been yesterday (or, in this week's case, Monday.)
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
#23re: Wedding Singer Review - July 4th
Posted: 7/5/06 at 4:20pmI don't know then. I guess she could be. I haven't read anything that says she's on vacation.

In addition to Felicia, David Josefsberg was out and Kevin Kern subbed for him.
I was hoping someone would mention Kevin being on for David. How was he? :) No one I know went to the show last night so I can't get any kind of review from them..
