Does this mean the show will close on broadway? or are they just going to have two productions in the U.S?

I'd love to see the tour, but the Bway production is just amazing, I can't wait to hear about the casting and the cities.

YES!! Now I'll get a chance to see it before it closes on Broadway, if it does! I hope not. :)
The tour doesn't start till September 2007. That's a year from this September. Will the show still be playing on broadway for there to be two companies? I'm hoping their numbers pick up with the summer audience, but can they make it another year? Just wondering.

It doesn't really matter. Even if it closes, they're still touring. The show will sell well on tour.

The opening city for the tour has been announced as Minneapolis.
i hope the current bway cast gets to do the tour. I pray the show still stays open but, It would be great for people not able to get to NYC to see Stephen Lynch in the role.

There is no way WEDDING SINGER is going to last on Broadway until September 2007. It'll be lucky to last through September 2006. They will simply recycle the set/costumes for the road. I wouldn't be surprised if the tour is moved up once it closes in New York.
The main point of that article is to announce that the show is touring. The date thing can always change. I think the show will actually tour well. Probably do better than its doing currently in New York.

I agree MB. I'm actually suprised it didn't sell better on Broadawy. It seemed like it sold really well at its first couple of previews and then just declined. Not sure what is keeping people away from the show, but it really is a good show. It's entertaining with a great cast and a catchy score.

Michael Reidel in Friday's NY Post says in his predictions that,
"The Wedding Singer" will close by the end of the month, and all will be right with the world.

Riedel is a sick person, his articles shouldn't even be posted. He is a rude individual and a joke. I will never get over him being so rude to Kristin Chenoweth to her face and now this.
He wishes a show to close? Very nice from him. The world would be right without this a**hole in it. The Wedding Singer makes people happy, he doesn't. This show got nominated for a Tony, so obviously people like it. He was always rude to Rosie O'Donnell when she opened Taboo. What a horrible human being.

Muscle, that's what he gets paid for. As rude as he is, he's usually right about what he prints.
"Michael Riedel in Friday's NY Post says in his predictions that..."
That's an odd note in what is otherwise a Tony prediction column. I guess he's still pissed from being so off in his Tony nomination column:
"A weak field of leading actresses was made even weaker, which probably means Roberts will make the cut, joining... Frances Sternhagen ("Seascape")."
"Stephen Campbell Moore, who plays Griffiths' adversary [in History Boys], will also get a nod."
"Of the boys, expect nominations for Dominic Cooper ("the sexy one," as the nominators call him) and and either Jamie Parker ("the really cute piano player") or Russell Tovey ("the dumb one")."
"The only reason the entire slate of supporting actors in a play won't be made up of History Boys is that the nominators will save a spot for Ian McDiarmid, of "Faith Healer."
"...performers who can expect nominations Tuesday include Anthony Sher ("Primo"), Edward Hibbert ("The Drowsy Chaperone"), and Brian F. O'Byrne ("Shining City")."
So he's guessing, and not much better than anyone else, even with him "chatting up nominators to see where they stand."
Riedel's Tony nomination predictions
Michael Bennet- The earliest the tour could get moved up to is June sometime, unless they changed the city. Minneapolis ends its season on May 13.
If its moved up, they would probably add dates to the front of it, and Minneapolis simply wouldn't be the first stop on the tour...
And muscle, a=hole or not, Riedel is usually right on the money, and apparently the Tony nominating committee was mortified that they were required by the Tony rulebook to nominate a fourth musical, when they felt there were only three worthy candidates. WEDDING SINGER got in because its still running and it wasn't as awful as TARZAN; don't confuse Tony politics for Tony love.
I'm hoping Riedel was just being bitter and Flip. If it has to close, let it be after the summer... After I get to see it
Riedel is usually right on the money? There is perhaps no columnist who is more consistently wrong than Mike Riedel. He maintains a presence in the Post because he's an entertaining read, but his "scoops" from "insiders" are laughable. There are only about three Broadway people who are still speaking to him, and they are far from "insiders". My mother knows more about the inner workings of the Tony nominating committee than he does.
Want proof? Let's see if the Wedding Singer closes before July 1st.
JDixon - his info is almost always right - I'd be shocked if you could find three examples in print of instances where his "inside scoop" has been off.
And there may only be three people who are speaking to him on record, but don't kid yourself, the biz is full of gossips. Full.

How do they handle casting? Different casts for multiple cities or one cast that tours?

How about my post above? 9 people he predicted would get nominations that didn't. Only got 2 out of 5 in the Featured Actor category. Had 2 of the Leading Actresses wrong. Please.
