I agree. Its like Hairspray to me. Its hard to hate on it. You can tell they actors enjoy it and you can tell the material really isn't bad, so its sorta hard to pick at it. I mean, no, its not shakespeare, but it isn't trying to be. Its just a good night out.
Yeah totally. And granted, Hairspray is a really well made show. But I just feel like it's the kind of show that won't really provoke an extreme reaction in anybody.

Yeah, exactly. Well, I guess it evoked something in me. I mean I loved it. But it might have been because I don't see Broadway shows regularly, so it was just cool to be in a Broadway theater with my first ever Original Broadway Cast and stuff. So i was already excited. And I had listened to "its your wedding day" on their website about 10x the day before ha. But I hope the critics are kind to it. I really hope it gets nominated for a Tony. I really wish it would win, but I know it wont.
Ah, that's cool. I liked it enough that I'm rooting for it to succeed. I don't know that it deserves any rewards, but I have really high standards. But you know, compared to things like Lestat... well, it's the winner in my book!
I forgot to mention that there have been costume changes and a bunch of the random choreography has been shortened.
As of 4/18, they now have a singing/dancing part in the curtain call (think hairspray). They toss the bouquet at the end and then during the dance/song part of the curtain call robbie takes off the garter and throws it into the audience.
Julia's room didn't turn during "If I Told You" so she sang the whole song facing the audience, not sitting at the window. I am not sure if this is a change or if was just a malfunction of the turntable.
The show is getting tighter. All the changes have me really excited.
Darn it, I may have to go back.
The only costume change I noticed was that during "Right in Front of Your Eyes" Amy Spanger used to have a skirt that she could... reverse while she was wearing it, for lack of a better word. It went from the purple waitress skirt to the sparkly one. She ripped it changing it the first time I saw it.
Now she just takes the purple skirt off and the sparkly one is underneath - not as cool an effect but maybe it just wasn't going to work.
Amy's skirt is a change and Julia has a new dress for the ending part (it's a green dress with a gold see-through shirt on top). The new dress is cute. It was different from the first time I saw it (as far as I remember).
Ah! Right on time was one of my favorite songs, I couldn't get it out of my head! Any news on the cast album?
I liked RIGHT ON TIME as well and had so much trouble getting it out of my head, but this new song changes everything in the first act. It makes Julia front and center (with the stage completely to herself for part of the song). I brings the attention to her right away. It makes her much cuter as well, with the veil and the cake and the pictures, etc. Now she catches the bouquet rather than Amy making the girl give it to her. She also gets more laughs for being "in the way" all the time in this song than she did in RIGHT ON TIME. It definitely is good change. It really changed the direction of the beginning of the show for me. Definitely a good chamge (although I did like the old song. Maybe it can be an "extra" on the album!)
They still have the pre-order thing at the theater for the cd. I haven't heard anything else about the cd yet.

I think on the website it says the cd is going to be released on June 6th, but I could be wrong.
tmz- That must have been a malfunction. I went yesterday, and Julia sat in the window during "If I told You."
They gave Laura a new wig. It's blonde.
What is the new song at the beginning called? The playbills still say Right on Time.
I saw it Saturday night. The dance numbers were fantastic - I like how the curtain goes up when they're already fully into it.
I love "All About the Green" and "Single", and hate "Come Out of the Dumpster". Maybe I'm just different.
"Letter From Linda" is a great song.
I'll have to make a retur ntrip, cause I had so much fun at the preview, I jus treally can't get over losing Right On Time =*( we'll see

wish I lived in NYC so that I could see these again. I hope they perform on the Tonys.
I'm pretty sure the new song is called "Someday When It's Me" - at least, that seemed to be a line she said a lot, so I'm making a guess.
It made the first act work SO much better.
Acording to the score (i was in the front row) the new song is just called "Someday". I also really enjoyed Right On Time, and i think either song work fine here. What is funny is that THIS isnt the point in the show where we arent feeling for Julia. The problem is that we never feel much for her after this point. Unfortunately Holly is just a much more loveable character. I also really enjoyed (in ROTime) how Holly took to bouquet and gave it to Julia, rahter then Julia happening to catch it.
And what is this talk of Julia wearing a blonde wig? Both times ive seen the show she has worn that mousy-brown shoulder length one. Is that what people are calling blonde? I dont like it. Her hair actually looks great on the ads, they might as well do it that way.
Can anyone send me the music from the demos? PM me :)
Yeah, that's the wig. I called it blonde.
I was in the fornt row, too. I never thought to look down and see what the song was called. I like it, though.
I don't know if something went wrong yesterday or what, but towards the end of the show, I heard someone in the orchestra pit go "Oh f*ck." Did anyone notice anything wrong, if you were at the mat yesterday?
I just saw this today. I really liked it, although I'm no expert in...well, anything theatre-related. Stephen Lynch was perfect in the role - I had seen him a few years ago at a comedy thing and I had no idea he was an actor. I guess there are scenes and songs that could be shortened or cut, but I think it works really well at the pace they have now. I don't think I stopped laughing. Felicia Finley had me crying from laughing so hard. Ah well, it's just my opinion. Umm, is there a legitimate way to get a copy of the demo? I plan to buy the recording, but patience was never one of my virtues. PM me if you know. Thanks.

Same here...I'm definitely going to buy the CR but I'd love to hear the demo for now. If anyone has info. could you PM me too please? Thanks so much!
Is Julia supposed to be ditzy or slow? In "Right on Time", why does she sing "sort of, kind of, close-ish", "or...HELLO!? I'm in denial!"
I would crack up so hard if I heard somebody go "Oh f*ck!" in the orchestra pit.
BillFinn- They cut "Right on Time."
Ronin- I did.
Um, duh. It's still a question I'm asking. Was she or is she ditzy? I can't imagine Laura Benanti playing an inferior.
She's sort of sweetly naive and bubbly, but I wouldn't describe her character as "slow" at all. She's got a lot of great snappy comebacks.
