Ok, it's never too early to talk Tony's. Will Mark Rylance pick up a Best Featured nom?
Are we sure Mark Rylance won't be considered Lead Actor?
Whatever category he's in, he'll get one. He should be Lead Actor - he's onstage practically the entire show.
He's above the title (along with Whitford and Baranski), so would have to be petitioned as Featured Actor. WAT and I were discussing this last night, and realized what a weak category that is, so the producers would be wise to try and get either he or Whitford in there, where one of them would certainly be nominated.
Additionally, Mary McCormack deserves (and should get) a Featured Actress nomination.
The play itself should also be nominated for Best Revival (though it won't beat Macbeth).
One of the wonderful things about this show is that you can predict a lot of the gags before they happen. We were saying at intermission that you know the minute the curtain goes up and you see six doors onstage, that's there's going to be lots of doors opening and closing. You know the minute someone leaves a bag onstage that it's going to figure in to the next scene. There's a reason only one door has a window on it. Yet, in spite of that, it's still absolutely hilarious because the cast is just so perfect, and their delivery is spot on. It still surprises you when it happens.
The more I think about this play, the more I realize how much I enjoyed it. As WAT said earlier, a perfect end to a busy week of show-going.
I don't think Whitford has a shot (as much as I adore him). It's going to be Rylance, Baranski, and McCormack.
I absolutely agree that Rylance deserves a nomination more than Whitford. My point was that they'll only be able to get one of them deemed Featured Actor, and whichever it is will be nominated, because there is such a dearth of worthy performances in that category. Leading Actor is much more crowded.

Whitford deserves a nomination. Who knew he actually has personality!?
I knew! I love him. It's just not as showy a role, and he has a lot less to do.
See, I always loved him on The West Wing. I thought Josh Lyman had a, unique, if different, personality!
Exactly. He has a great personality and he's very appealing.
Wouldn't it have been if Janel Moloney (Donna Moss from The West Wing) was one of the flight attendants?
West Wing fans will understand why this would be interesting.
In theory it would have been, but she's pretty awful onstage. How about Allison Janney as Bertha (Berta?) or Richard Schiff as Robert?

Mary McCormack was on West Wing for a time, no?
I can definitely see Allison Janney...Richard Schiff...no.
I was kinda hoping the Public would be reviving Joe Papp's fabled NAKED HAMLET over the summer, and that Martin Sheen would reprise his role as Hamlet (he did To Be or Not To Be in a Puerto Rican accent!), but I guess not.
McCormack was on West Wing the last 2 1/2 seasons, as the national security advisor.
Janney would be fun as Berthe. Richard Schiff, not so much of a Robert. What about Rob Lowe?
Glad to hear that Boeing is in good shape ... can anyone say more about the renovated Longacre??
The Longacre looks GREAT. All gold and light pink/peach. And it has that "new car smell" too. It's one of the best looking houses on Broadway now, they really did a fabulous job with it.
Good, so the baby diaper brown it used to be has been completely eradicated?
What's the rush situation?
Any word? Or did I miss the announcement?
By the way, I was totally kidding about Richard Schiff. He'd be the most neurotic Robert ever. Just trying to think of what West Wingers could go where.
Show was entertaining, but ran a little long. I didn't seem to like it as much as others on this board.
The theater was nice, and I loved that there were ample restrooms for the ladies. There was actually a line for the men's room and not the women's room!
Allison Janey would make a fantastic Berthe..although if that would actually happen, I'd like to take in a little more Baranski first. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED HER!
I loved every single cast member. They all nailed it.
spoiler:
I'm walking on the street today..and I think about Katherine Hahn's kissing scene with Robert..and how she does her little dances..and kinda parts her hands from her forehead (is that what it's called?)..and I start laughing! Just fantastic!

Smax - the thought that I probably was the 3rd person to sit in my seat was pretty cool! Theater looks great - still has that "new theater" smell. It's peach and gold; seats are turquoise. Very wide. VERY wide. Leg room is decent, too!
Friday night I felt a surface and the paint was still a little tacky- it definitly smelled of fresh paint!
PS- LOVED THE CURTAIN CALL (and i hate choreographed curtain calls!)
