I was definitely, definitely there for that. I remember that being the first time I'd ever heard Anthony sing live, and I remember crying, and not knowing why. It was some sort of moment of epiphany, I think. I watched it on the little monitor under that tent, and just went "oh my God, this it the Rent movie."
I'm not an actor, rent_noday. At all!

I'm not an actor, either.
And nodaybuttoday, I mean that I sent him my review (and some extra private thoughts) of his book and an early advanced screening review of the RENT movie. He responded kindly and graciously to both.
But otherwise, I try not to spam his PM inbox with anything not very important or personal (I haven't as of yet). I prefer to feel like I'm sending him something he'd actually appreciate, you know? Even if it's something small.

I remember that, skittles! I laughed, as did Raul. I liked that! Not really a joke -- just a smile to acknowledge that I'm cool with my inability.

Hehe, I said that randomly to Robb Sapp at the Wicked stage door and he cracked up and I realized that I really liked it. Raúl laughing at it made me happy.
But it is definitely confirmed. I've had two brief onstage experiences (required for a class in high school) and because of that, I am also cool my inability.

Is the book written chronologically, or does it jump around?

The backbone of it is chronological, but it's got a lot of anecdotal flashbacks. It's not hard to follow, or anything. But like, talking about one particular thing going on in the linear structure leads him to talk about a related experience earlier in his life, or something.

Basically, every event is interconnected. He backtracks when he needs to and it all just... fits. Very well-done structure, I think.

I was just wondering, since you had already gotten to the filming of the movie, but you had 50 pages left, so I was wondering what else was left to talk about. But if it's not strictly chronological, that makes more sense.

Oh, sorry if that didn't make any sense, skittles. I was just flipping to the back of the book to see how many pages I had left, and my eye caught the post-script, which mentions the movie.
I didn't win the book on the blog, but I borrowed it from a friend who did. I have to return it in the mail when I'm done reading.
My friend knew someone who was working on the NYC shoot, so we got to go watch.

I went to an advanced screening, rent_noday.
And yes, I won the RENT blog contest the first time around. I basically sat around and refreshed the page until comments worked, and I had my name and address on my copy and paste clipboard all ready to go.

Um... to jump back a few topics, does anyone know what city TTB is in on the west coast?
"`I grow old... I grow old... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.` What does that mean, Mr. Marlowe?"
"Not a bloody thing. It just sounds good."
He smiled. "That is from the `Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.` Here's another one. `In the room women come and go/Talking of Michael Angelo.' Does that suggest anything to you, sir?"
"Yeah -- it suggests to me that the guy didn't know very much about women."
"My sentiments exactly, sir. Nonetheless I admire T. S. Eliot very much."
"Did you say, 'nonetheless'?"

A friend of mine from school who used to post.
StageWhore, do a search on TTB... I know there's a thread that's got ALL of the details of that production somewhere.
