That Carol-Ann Rudy is one tough bitch. I heard she panned Ebersole, and would have given the Tony to Bundy!

I will admit there is no review of the show here, i only wanted to point out that there is an audience for this show, and that people are really enjoying it. i know over time Kathleen Marshall will figure out what needs to be worked on and this young cast will rise to the challenge.

Of course there's an audience for this show! It's GREASE, not SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE.

So many people joining today posting stuff that we could care less about.
It must be Laura's mom
That's a classless thing to say.
starzilla may be new here, but at least she has the courage of her convictions and won't take vitriol from the naysayers and haters.
Bravo lady, for the positive review!

This goes to show you that TicketNews.com don't know sh!t:
The original production of Grease opened on Broadway June 2, 1972 at the Royale Theatre, transferred to the Majestic Theatre, and closed as the longest running show in Broadway history. Along the way, it picked up seven Tony Awards.
THE TRUTH:
Grease originally opened on February 14, 1972 at the Eden Theater Off-Broadway. It then transferred to the Broadhurst Theater on June 2, 1972. It the transferred to the Royale Theater where it continued it's lengthy run where for a time it held the title for Broadway's Longest Running Musical. The show was NOMINATED for 7 Tony Awards winning NONE.

LOL, Stagefan2, you crack me up!
"There is an audience for this show and people are really enjoying it".....and how many of these people have ever seen a show on Broadway? Probably not many. (Hence they have nothing to compare Grease to...)
I have a feeling that this show will introduce Broadway to many out there who have not previously been exposed to theatre, as I'm sure much of the Grease fan base formed from the tv show.
This is a good thing...it is these people who will hopefully come back time and time again to see different shows.
On the other hand...I think that bringing Grease back to Broadway again is like beating a dead horse...personally you could not pay me to see this show. I don't care which Broadway actors they bring in...
Come on Broadway, how about bringing in some new, innovative show rather than recycling an old one for the 3rd or 4th time?

"...beleive Kathleen was reeling in the caricature acting that is so prevelent in musical comedy. They are all working thier craft at true hinest emotion. So If you prefer in your face style I guess you could consider them bland."
That's the biggest effing problem! GREASE is not a show where you can find emotions. There is absolutely nothing in it that's not on the page. There's no subtext (except the fact that Danny totally banged Sandy's brains out every night at the beach), there's no meaning to the show. GREASE is all about caricature. That's what Jacobs and Casey originally intended. Taking that out of Grease leaves you with something that sounds, well, bland.
Maybe I'll be eating my words come Wednesday evening after I see it. Who knows?

Don't you mean Laura Mom?
This can be a new term, like Baby Daddy.
It sound slike you either love shills or hate them!
Best comment..Laura- ditch the wig. Um yeah. She's just gonna not put it on. Cause no one else, say the director, who have any say on that. Laura is the queen of Bway!
Laura is the Queen of Broadway?
Ha ha. Try Christine Ebersole.
Glad I could bring a smile to you Bwayfan.
And yes WBAF, I meant Laura Mom. I have to keep my fingers off my ess.
I would agree that Grease is probably going to be a first time theatre experience for some people and it will most definitely find an audience. The night I attended the show I would generalize the crowd as having been younger and tourists or younger tourists.
In particular there were two young couples outside the Brooks that were evidently under the misconception that they were holding auditions for the show inside the theatre. They were dressed to the 'Grease 9s'. Four clones of Travolta and Newton-John direct from the movie. They were trying to get their synchronization of "Hand Jive" down. It was funny and terrifying at the same time. I don't know if they actually went in to see the show. I moved quickly past them because I'd have wet myself if they had broken out into song; which I determined they would do eventually, and if they had started dancing I probably would have passed-out from the shear hilarity of it all.
But they were having a good time and that's why we go to the theatre. While I wish a person's first stage experience could be Shakespeare in the Park or a good community theatre production -it's not how it works these days, and that's okay. Unfortunate, but okay. It's the era of commercialism and we sometimes sacrifice our Arts and our hearts for the $$. Still there's plenty of good theatre to be had if you want to see it. Fun shows like Xanadu, Blonde, Hairspray, and my favorite Curtains (K and E shill ). Not necessarily great theatre, but a lot fun and easy for a first time theatre goer to enjoy IMO. There are exceptional shows like Frost/Nixion or Grey Gardens but they don't fit the bill for first-timers. They need familiarity - hence the popularity of yet another dreadful revival of Grease.

They thought it was an audition? I can understand slight confusion as to opening night vs. first preview, but that's just ridiculous.
OMG I just read this-
As for me, I'm sorry I spent the money on it. Not only does it have no production values, but I've seen better direction from a barrel going over Niagara Falls and finer, more exciting choreography from the splintered driftwood left at its turbulent base.
and I think I love you. :)
Seriously, though, between the bad reviews on here (yes I know it's still in previews), and all of the awesome shilling being done, and that fabulous NY Times fluff piece, I actually kinda want to see this now, just to see how much of a hot mess this show actually is.
...more exciting choreography from the splintered driftwood- hee!
