Well I for one really enjoyed this new take on an old war horse of a show. It is not at all the caricature, or cartoonish version that it easily could have been and thus been assured a long run. I say Kudo's to Ms. Marshall and company for bringing to the stage a completly refreshing take.
Of course the entire audience could not control itself when the lights went down and the music director Kim let her baton fly for those first few notes. We were already putty in this groups hands. Then, the lighting changed and there in stark golden sillouette of a full moon were our two dearest broadway stars locked in an embrace. I thought the crowd was just going to never stop applauding so that we could hear the dialogue. Actually I missed most of it. And then Boom. Everything changes and those resounding musical notes of GREASE rang though the air and this party was on fire. The audience was cheering and clapping and then when the lights came up on the lockers and each of the T-birds came out a chorus of applause. and then the pink ladies, well all was well in Greaseland. I new then that this show was going to be every bit as entertaining as I had hoped. I could carry on here about all the special moments I enjoyed, but I would begin to sound redundant. This show will run a very long time, It is critic proof, and all GREASE, Max and Laura fans alike are sure to have a great time.
Are there still things to fix? For sure, but this is previews people. let them work. Cant wait to go back in September to see how they improve the show. I also don't really like the smoking, herbal or not it just smells.... but, that's personal preference.
If I were directing which of course I am not. What would I do differently. Remember there is so much to love and enjoy so I am being picky. here.
Rizzo Lighten up, your still in high school, I think she could find some more humor in the situations
Max relax, we love you!, remember your "It takes two playfulness". You have the swagger and charm.
Laura ditch the wig at the end, don't over do the strong girl thing during YTOTIW. Enjoy the chase more... Your the one that HE wants!
Act II opening dialogue, very real delivery ..... but pacing please pick it up and get to the dancing.
Well, I have probably exhausted your patience so I will stop cause I loved it so and I know that they will fix these things.
It is a wonderful show worth the money I would have gone again If I had tickets. And the crowd loved it standing O before the curtain closed I wish the cast would have come back and sang another song.
Cab fare from La Guardia $45
Tickets to the show $250
The look in Max and Laura's eyes as they walked out to a standing O at curtain call..........Priceless
God love'em and keep them in his care through the run of this show. They are going to need all of our prayers and encouragement for strength and support.
later.....
Blechk. Austin should be in that sow.

Austin would have been a fierce Marty!
You needed to start your own thread now to post the same biased, joke review of this trainwreck that you posted in the other GREASE review thread?
Does anyone know if there's a SHILL in the house?

Oh, hey. Hurray to Starzilla, for having the guts to come on here and give the fans (who are attending the show, and reading) your take on the experience.
And you're just as credible a source, Kait, considering this is your first post.

Yes, an anonymous message board post is the epitome of gutsy.
I started a thread last night to welcome all the new people who joined specifically to start Grease threads, but it was deleted.

Ivan the Wonderful- get over it. he would have been awful as danny.you don't need to say the same thing in every post.
You would think shills would at least have some intelligence and join a couple months before their show starts.
But then again, how much intelligence does it take to be a sycophant?

It sounds like you either love Grease or hate it. Can't wait to see what the critics have to say.
there were two critics last night there.

It sounds like you either love Grease or hate it.
It sounds to me like you either work for the show, or you hate it.
But Foster, you can work for the show and still hate it...

I think if you hate Grease you hate yourself.

I think the hallmark of aristocracy is loving GREASE.
Grease is, after all, the word.

^ That doesn't matter. They still are pretty terrible and a pretty terrible production of a pretty terrible show.
I'm going to not put up a full review of the preview I saw the other evening because it would seem as redundant as every bad review Tarzan got.
A kink- The exceptional revival of Oklahoma! several years ago was nearly three and a half hours long when I saw it at an early preview. I enjoyed the show a great deal, but it took a lot out of me to stand and ovate Shuler Hensley at the end because I was so tired. However, when I saw it after its preview period had ended, it was down to 2 hours and 55 minutes (or three hours, I can't remember) which is still long, but a resonable length for Oklahoma!.
Not a kink- Max and Laura's seventh tier acting, singing and dancing which will improve in about fifteen years, Kathleen Marshall's blando staging which will only improve if she just reworks the entire show over a year and the awful production design.
I love it when people say "well the cast works so hard" or "they put a lot of work into this show" as some kind of deterrent. A lot of work goes into EVERY Broadway show, and the casts of every single show on Broadway work their butts off every night. I'm sure that a lot of work was put into Lestat and Good Vibrations, but it didn't change the fact that they were both horrible. Not that I'm saying Grease is awful cause I haven't seen it yet.
^ Absolutely. Working hard means nothing. Everyone works hard. That doesn't mean they're good.
yeah, baby !
