Well known shows for an all girls highschool

So its that time of year, when my friends and i start thinking of shows to suggest to our director for next year (yeah right like it ever works) but this year i have a very knowlegable resource to turn to for suggestions, you all! I figure that everyone on these boards probably has a better range of shows than myself or many of my friends, so here goes: Our highschool is all girls, but for the musical we generally get a few boys to audition and then cast them on talent, not on wqehre we need boys
(ex: two years ago we did kiss me kate, and had 5 guys try out-2 were outstanding esp. for highschool, the other three were meh--so the two great guys got fred/petruchio and bill/lucentio, and the other three were in the chorus and in tom dick or harry----this year we had 6 guys try out for music man-5 could sing, 1 didnt evern try--the one guy was cast as charlie cowell, four of the five were cast as barbershopquartet(schoolboard) and the last one as the constable...then two guys in the quartet dropped so the guy who played the constable joined the quartet and then I switched parts to play jacey...anywho the thing is, because the guys weren;t really up to it, we had an amazing girl play harold hill and another great girl play marcellus, so it really varies by year)

whew that was a long parenthesis, anyways...point is our director loves big musicals, and we do have mainly girls (though half will prob end up playing guys) we have one extremely talented dancer, a couple really strong singers, one triple threat, one great comedic out there kinda quirky actress, and then generally enough girls to make up a great ensemble...and hopefully at least one strong male voice any suggestions for well known show we could do?
anything would be greatly appreciated!
thanks so much
always,

NINE! It only has one guy and the rest are girls. Also THE WOMEN has no guys as all...but, I don't know were to get the rights for either of them. I could also see A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM having one guy play Hero and the rest girls.

THE SNAKE PIT - The Musical!

Just follow the harrowing plot of the classic film, and insert zesty musical numbers dealing with insanity and mental unbalance: "Crazy He Calls Me", "Crazy For You", "Crazy Feet" "It Must Be Him", and of course, "Losing My Mind"!

I went to an all girls high school. Two of the shows that I remember working really well were Crazy For You (lots of Follies girls, not that many guys) and No No Nanette (which I can still quote start to finish from doing sound crew). We had a all-boy "brother" school that sometimes lent some talent to help cover the male roles, but if I recall, No No Nanette only had three guys in it. We also did Bye Bye Birdie, since it can cast a good sized ensemble of girls, and doesn't have too many male leads.

nono--headmistress shot her lover--she's in jail--that was like 30something years ago, but we're still getting bad press for it---in fact an hbo movie is being made about it--do some research--im sure you can figure it out....

Scandals

The Scarsdale Diet Doctor Herman Tarnower (SOB)m was offed in a jealous suicidal rage by one Jean Harris who was Headmistress of the Madiera School in Virginia and also was at another girls prep school in Connecticut earlier. Jean was a girlfriend of the doctor's who was being shed for a younger model which semed to be a pattern of the doc's. It happened in the early 80s and that damn doctor had it coming (cue orchestra).

Jean served about 12-15 years at Bedford Hills and was commuted by Cuomo. She has lived out of the spotlight ever since. She might be 80 by now.

This was a MAJOR tabloid story--the case and the trial.

re: Scandals

Good research, WOSQ!

Also, VoR, THE BOYFRIEND has a bunch of female roles and is kind of cute (and not terribly hard to get the rights to if I recall)

re: re: re: Scandals
