Half-page vertical spread for GODOT in the Times on the cover of the Weekend Arts section.

And a mention on the front page.

Frankly, the producers of 9 TO 5 have got to be thankful their review was semi-buried.

The show will run on Dolly and the property's name recognition, and the public at large will be mostly ignorant that the show even GOT reviews. It won't be till months down the line when the average tourist buying tickets overhears that it wasn't well-received by critics.

Every show benefits from good reviews. The same tourists and Dolly-worshippers will still buy their tickets, but the slightly more seasoned theatregoers who want confirmation that something's good before spending their $120 a ticket will likely have second thoughts now.

Or they will just try harder to get discounts and less-expensive seats...

I'd pay $120 to see such a talented cast (specifically Kudisch, Hilty, Block) even if the "vehicle" wasn't very good.

But this show is FUN and puts a smile on your face. Who doesn't want that?

*Yawn*

We get it, you love 9 to 5. But this thread isn't to debate the merits (or lack thereof) of the show.

Like I said, those select attendees who were waiting for confirmation of quality from reviews before spending their cash will perhaps wait for another show -- they're not going to rush out simply because JazzSquare55 says it's going to put a smile on their face and insists it's all-caps 'fun.'

I have to admit....I wasn't terribly interested to begin with....now I am less so....and many more shows have surpassed it on my list of things to see.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Dear, the people who need and want those smiles the most are nowhere near able to spend that kind of money on a ticket.

I would be pissed at logan for posting such a ginormous picture, but I'm not because it allowed me to notice that the whipped cream can and peanut butter jar are NOT time period-appropriate.

For shame!

As someone who lives outside NY, and just comes up throughout the year to see shows, I rely a lot on reviews. And after reading the NYTimes, I'm much less likely to see 9 to 5 next weekend.
If people have split views about your work, I think it's flattering. I'd rather have them feel something about it than dismiss it.
