So sad. Her writing had such humor and such insight.
I will cherish the memories of having seen Uncommon Women and and Isn't It Romantic and Heidi Chronicles and Sisters Rosensweig, and of having met her and heard such vivid stories of the plays she and Chris Durang did together at Yale. One title of theirs always makes me smile, even today: "When Dinah Shore Ruled the Earth."
She was a classy, funny lady. My heart goes out to her family, her friends and her daughter.
just Tragic

Such a loss to the theatre world. Thoughts and prayers for her family and friends.
so sad...I still remember seeing Uncommon Women one Saturday afternoon on television in the seventies and crying and laughing. I've been a fan as long as I've been a fan of Sondheim's...and she was so funny and smart when interviewed. I'll miss her...
Rest in Peace, Wendy!
This is really sad.
Sleep Easy, Wendy. Our prayers are with the Little One.

I was in a production of The Heidi Chronicles last year. A touching play.
Very saddened by this news. She was still writing, too. Who knew what treasures she had left. Doesn't matter now, though. My prayers are with her daughter, mother, and the rest of her family.
RIP Wendy.
The second thing I ever directed was a short play she wrote called "Tender Offer". Such a great playwright.
RIP Wendy. I hope her family knows that they and she are in our prayers and thoughts.
Just here to thank Wendy for giving me my first professional credit on Broadway as the voice of the sons in An American Daughter. Her casting me led to me recognizing her work and becoming a huge fan. I will always be grateful to her and know that her work lives on.
A month ago in Boston, I saw the Huntington's production of The Sisters Rosensweig and really enjoyed it. It was my first introduction to the wonder that is Wendy Wasserstein.
Rest in peace Ms. Wasserstein. Your work and talent will never be forgotten.
That's very sad.
I wonder how her young daughter is coping.
A sad day indeed. Rest in peace.

I regret to say that I am completely unfamiliar with her work, though I've heard her name mentioned before. What a shame, indeed.

My school performed The Heidi Chronicles last semester and it was really incredible! This is very sad. My prayers are with her friends and family!
oh no, that's really sad. Condolences go out to her family...
This kind of makes all the little spats here meaningless.
A shame that we lost Wendy & August Wilson so quickly. A true theatrical talent has passed. My condolences & prayers are with her family

That's so sad
I was in "Uncommon Women" over the summer (Mrs. Plumm). It was one of the most amazing straight shows I've ever done.
She was an incredible gift to the theatre community, and I'm sure she'll be missed.
I give thanks for the gifts she left us here. She will be remembered as long as stages exist. Thank You Wendy - Thoughts & Prayers go with you!
