I had been dreading this day ever since I heard she was sick. When the news says someone is "gravely ill" you know they don't have much time left. I spent a big part of the day today trying to find a message board to post to, finally found this at midnight--I had forgotten about this website until I got an email from them. I had wanted to send my prayers or thoughts during her illness but couldn't find any forum. I have been a fan of Wendy's since at least college, if not before--Isn't it Romantic is one of my favorite plays ever. I am at a loss for words--the unfairness of all of this, her contributions to theatre, her dedication to the arts in general, her generosity, her bubbly personality that put you in a better mood just reading or listening to her--the world needed more people like her while she was here, now we need even more people like her, both to replace her and spread her message. Her life and work should be an inspiration to everyone.
I don't ever remember being this upset about the passing of someone I didn't know. The theatre community lost 2 playwrights at the height of their creativity in less than a year--first August Wilson, now Wendy. Two of the 20th/21st century's most prolific playwrights, with so many parallels that I didn't even realize until now. Their memories will live on in their work--if only we could all leave such a legacy. Thanks for everything, Wendy, rest in peace.

This was on playbill.com:
"In honor of the passing of the American playwright Wendy Wasserstein, Broadway theatres will dim its lights Jan. 31.
As is tradition, the lights of all Broadway marquees will dim for one minute at 8 PM. Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Wasserstein passed away Jan. 30."
I appreciate the gesture, but don't shows start at 7 on Tuesday? I wouldn't think they would dim the lights in the middle of Act I for every show... I hope that is an error.
