Did A Chorus Line change from a lotto to a rush? I think WSS should do the same. A rush for WSS would be better if this lotto is as shady as everyone says. Well, then again, people oculd f*ck with the rush too...
I don't know. I definitely would speak to someone about this though. I was thinking about lotto-ing this, but now all these stories make me think twice.
I won the lotto tonight (Thursday) and I didn't notice that shadiness ....
The show - fantastic. The first act - phenomenal. The second act? Eh .... it fell flat.
The choreography - amazing. Hello, Jerome Robbins.
The view from the front row - you can't exactly see their feet when they're dancing .... and when people are "down on the ground," they get a bit lost ... but all in all ... a fantastic, entertaining show.
I'm glad we only paid $26.50 for the seats - worth waiting 2x to win!
How would you notice it unless you knew of the people involved? If you didn't know the details, it would look totally normal.
That's one of my reservations about the front row -- that you'll lose the performers' feet, which are kind of important in a dance show. That was a big problem in Movin' Out, but there's a much bigger space between the front row and the stage at the Palace, so I can't imagine it's as bad.
Just_John, the difference is these producers have had successful lotteries at their other shows for 10 years. They're not going to stop something that worked well and fairly because of one unethical employee who can (and should be) easily replaced.
The guy who officially runs it did was in DC by himself and there was never a problem there.

ivanguy- How many people were there when you won?
Of course I wouldn't have noticed any shadiness had I not known about some poster carrying BWW member. I was just excited when I got home last night after seeing the show and it was the first thread I found and it was amusing since I happened to win the tickets last night. ALTHOUGH .... there was an overly excited couple in the front row during the curtain call - it did look like they knew someone in the cast. HHHhhhhhmmmmmmmm .....
Anyhoo ... there were about .... I dunno .... 60 to 70 people gathered around the lottery drawing, I suppose. They draw 9 pairs of tickets and one alternate in case on of the pairs doesn't get used. Before the drawing, I asked the guy in charge if the alternate ever gets used - he said he hadn't seen it yet! And last night - the alternate got a ticket. A single ticket, but a ticket nonetheless. This was our second attempt at the lottery and another guy had tried it SEVEN times and this was his first win.
Although you couldn't see their feet - the choreography was still amazing. A small price to pay for an $85 savings per ticket. And it's great to hear the orchestra up close. And the conductor smiled at me during "America!"
OH - one other thing - Maria - the actress is from Argentina. She's playing a Puerto Rican, right? Then why is she speaking her Spanish with an Argentinian accent??? My partner is Spanish and I asked him how the Spanish was faring. One of the girls in the chorus has a really bad American accent, so he says, and Maria can't shake her Argentinian accent. Did the director forget about this little detail???
Orangeskittles: Perhaps the poster had another friend write down her name another time.
Or, maybe her friend put in two names. Unfortunately.
Ok, I tried the lotto for the first time this afternoon. I have heard all the posts about it being rigged and a shrugged it off. I am not going to say it is rigged, but it is VERY shady!!
Who doesn't pull names out in front of the group of people? Why do you have to go back in the lobby to do it? It was funny that a groups of mid-twenties guys all won 4 out of the 9 names called. I am not one to accuse, but it was very odd!
Any feelings?
Well the guy said he "checks for doubles."
I did it once, and my friend got the alternate! That sucked!

Inequities can and will happen no matter what form they use. There have always been stories about box office personnell being biased about many things. Why does everyone act so suprised? IF I had a friend in a box office...you'd be damn sure I'd call in some favors!
At SA, when stage seats were released for the month you were limited to buying two. HOWEVER, month after month, one of the nut jobs (That went HUNDREDS of times) was allowed to buy a multitude of tix.
Life ain't fair. (Although there is no excuse for the rudeness.)

For what it's worth, I was at the lottery for Saturday's matinee, and the names were drawn in plain sight in the lobby.

Any word on how the lotto has been lately? I am trying next Thursday so hopefully the fact that it's a weekday will help.
