The Paramount Theatre outside Chicago has again created a hugely successful production with their revival of West Side Story directed by Jim Corti and choreographed by William Carlos Angulo. Reviews below as well as several clips. Note: The theatre has a 19 piece pit orchestra playing the original orchestrations.

We were at the Paramount Theatre for opening and loved every aspect of this production!
I'm seeing it in two weeks. Me and my partner became subscribers this year. Their productions are phenomenal. I've never seen regional theater on this level of professionalism. The set design that was constructed for a christmas story was insane. Can't wait to see what is in store for next season.

Judging from those clips this production looks extremely misguided.
The Dance at the Gym lacked energy and tension.
Love the contrast of costumes for Dance at the Gym.
Hey, Carlos, you do know, don't you that we saw only a clip from the beginning of the dance. Most people who have seen the show would recognize that tension and energy build later. But obviously they never reach YOUR level. No one ever could.

The choreographer did an amazing job..... there's lots of both energy and tension!
Actually I would never call the production misguided. I would say it is less theatrical and more realistic. Something to think about in Chicago which has been plagued with large levels of ongoing gang violence not seen in over a decade and the summer months have not even begun yet. West Side Story could be referring to the West Side of Chicago and not New York.
Look at the reviews for a clearer picture of the Chicago creators interpretation of this musical theatre classic.

The reviews look great so I'm seeing this tonight. Thanks for the tip! I've somehow never actually seen a professional production of west side story but I LOVE the show so I'm excited to see this getting such good reviews.
Saw the show last weekend. It was really incredible. I was kinda worried at the beginning, because it felt a little out-dated, but by the second act it was a full emotional tour de force. This has hands down the darkest versions of I feel pretty and gee, officer krupke, I've ever seen. I really enjoyed the un-robbins like choreography that was used as well. The Paramount has definitely once again succeeded my expectations. I can not wait for there next season.
Has the paramount won the regional tony award?
Holy **** the guys in that look hot hot hot. Be butch boys!
