Weston Playhouse in Weston, VT has announced their 2008 season, which includes Adam Guettel's The Light in the Piazza.

Is the first regional production of Piazza?

Who's handling the rights to this show, anyone know?

Cheers,

The production in Winston-Salem is set it open in October. The Weston production is in July. It may not be the regional premier though, we will have to see if any other theaters announce that they are producing it before July.

The roll-out for the show regionally has been very slow, largely because regional rights have been given exclusively to LORT theatres, most of whom aren't that keen to produce the show next season because of the extensive (and financially not very succesful) national tour which played most major cities just last year.

One other announced production is in Northern California; The Palo Alto Players. I'm not sure how they got around the LORT restriction but they are doing the show in April, which presumably would make them the first announced regional production.

The Palo Alto Players would be the first "community theater" production. I don't consider community theater the same as regional theater.

Adam Guettel has a home in Vermont near Weston and has a close relationship with the theater. Weston had Adam and actors from the Broadway company perform a concert version of the show in 2005. At that time, the theater was supposedly promised to be the first regional theater to get the rights by Mr. Guettel.

Theatre Three in Dallas will be performing the show October 23 - November 23 of this year.

That's great - I hope to see this show have a successful regional life!

I always find it exciting when a show begins to receive its first round of regional production.

I really hope Arena Stage in DC does this show after their new facility is built.

The Heritage Theatre production looks beautiful but like it completely ripped off the staging of the original production...

Here is the Los Angeles regional premiere opening in January.

I think Lambs Players (in San Diego) is doing the regional west coast premiere.

Well not regional West Coast Premiere - the show was done up in Northern California a few months ago. I guess Lambs Players would be the Southern California Regional Premiere, and Covina would be the Los Angeles Regional Premiere.

Here is a link to the Lambs Theatre production. I'm not sure how old that Clara is...

All this regional business gets tricky (and silly). Its just nice to see the show being given a nice roll out.
