Posted: 1/16/04 at 12:58amDespite some ill-thought stunt casting (*cough*MelanieGriffith*cough* -- sorry, I must have a frog in my throat) and the move to the Ambassador last year, Chicago is doing very very well. They aren't even selling rush tickets anymore and everytime I have seen the show recently it has been completely filled to capacity. Not saying this out of my love for the show... saying it out of fact. Even if it *is* the next long running show to close, it certainly won't be anytime soon.

I have a feeling Rent is going to close soon! But not that soon, I didn't get to see it

I agree with Rent. It's a great show, but the casts, I hear get worse and worse, and soon enough people will have seen it, and there won't be any interest in it anymore.
I know this is going to sound COMPLETELY ignorant, but what's up with Urinetown? Did that close already?

RENT isn't going anywhere for at LEAST 2 or 3 years! You guys are crazy if you think it's closing before that. Have you seen the grosses? poor RENT had a few rough months there, but lately numbers have been very decent! And from what I hear, the cast now is fantastic (but of course people will always complain about casting for this show)
BillyLawlor: RENT has been going strong for 8 years now, and people are still coming back, so I don;t think it's a matter of when "enough people see it."
Anyway, we all know I have a deep love for RENT. I gotta say tho, I can only hope POTO is the next to go before next year!! ::crosses fingers:::

Seany, I agree...look what the film Chicago did for the show. Phantom is going to get a resurgance of interest.
I'll feel very, very sad when that show does close, though
It's a sentimental favorite in my family and will always have a place in my heart.

I must jump in defence of the current cast of RENT. I saw the show in December going in with a little fear because some people were saying that it has become tired and forced. I came out having witnessed the best ensemble of all the shows I saw. Fantastic voices and performances by all and an incredible energy that blew me, the whole audience and the roof, off !!!
Take care

Posted: 1/16/04 at 3:50pmRENT is gone. I hope. Phantom will wait. Disney is going nowhere. Gypsy will close when BP leaves. My vote has to be Chicago or RENT, I can only hope.

#37re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: What Do You Feel is the Nex
Posted: 1/16/04 at 4:35pmBut how much longer will PRODUCERS run once Matt and Nate take their final bows? (Again!)

Posted: 1/16/04 at 4:37pmi think rent is going to close followed by poto, theyve been around to long! =D But i agree that poto might stay till the movie is released.

POTO isn't going to close with a feature film about to come out... like Chicago, a film version will pump ticket sales for another good year or so after the film release. Even Titanic had ticket sales boosted with the release of the unrelated Titanic film.
I think Wonderful Town and Never Gonna Dance will be the next to go.

Posted: 1/16/04 at 4:46pmNot sure if Wonderful Town and Never Gonna Dance are considered "long running".

Posted: 1/16/04 at 4:47pmTrue but there arent many long running shows out there.....

Again, I think if it is announced that RENT will close, its time will be extended because of all the RENTheads flocking to see it before it closes.
And this isn't directed to anyone in particular, but why are some of you ANXIOUS to see a show close? Even if I don't like a show, I would never cross my fingers for it to close and put all of its actors and the people who worked so hard on it out of work.

I agree with the point about RENT. If it closes (which I hope to god it doesn't) I think every RENThead will have a serious nervous breakdown! So, I doubt it will close because of the enormous fan base.
I agree with GreekMusicalFan. The show has definately gotten better. I saw it in December, 2002, and it was okay, but then I saw it December, 2003, and it was SO much better!

I also saw Beauty and the Beast on Tour in 1996 or '97, I can't remember....The set was beautiful! Why did they scale down the touring production so much? The casts are usually adequate, and several that I have seen were just wonderful, but my only problem is with the new set! The orchestras for Beauty and the Beast have remained quite consistent, and I am so happy for that! Was it a money issue? Who has thoughts on why this tour has become so small?!?
Thanks,
Phantom05

Why all the evilness!? Jeez it's really messed up when people act HAPPY about any show closing, let alone a show like RENT!
I may not enjoy some shows and I can think POTO will be the next to close, bu I won't exactyly be dancing in the street about it.

Posted: 1/17/04 at 10:56amEven though I love RENT to death, I think its going to be going in may be a year or so. Dont worry- the revival will come back and get a whole new generation of fans. I mean come on look- that wanna be in RENT thing is such a publicity stunt.
