Actually, as it relates to 'Paradice'. I did not love to hate her. I actually liked her because she was the only real and interesting character in "Brooklyn". I guess she was supposed to be a villain but the script was so badly done that she was the one I was actually pulling for.
Even though "The Lion King" is not one of my favorite shows (it's okay), a character like 'Scar' is someone you can love to hate.

Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. I know there are better ones, but I can't seem to think of any right now.

Javert from Les Miserables and Benny from RENT.
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

I get lost, unless, of course, I'm getting found.

Benny (RENT) I absolutely love to hate him! Ok, he's a "yuppie scum", but he's still lovable.
I have my books and my poetry to protect me...

I agree with Scar - and how could you hate poor, yet fairly evil Javert? I've always had a special place in my heart for Javvy.

Benny all the way! My pitt could squash his akita any day.
I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog too.

Javert from Les Miserables and the boss in Promises, Promises. He is just such an a**hole to the main character and to Fran.
"Sing the words, Patti!!!!" Stephen Sondheim to Patti LuPone.

Yes, wickedfan, Sheldrake is a real jerk to both Chuck AND Fran. Did you know that in THE APARTMENT (source of PROMISES, PROMISES) Sheldrake is played by good ol' Fred MacMurray ("My Three Sons")?

Yes I did. Audiences weren't very happy with that. Pleased with his performance, but not with the fact that it was him. I love the apartment and Promises, Promises adapts it very well.

In the category of Hate To Love, Mr. Applegate I believe takes the cake.
BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"
