I am possibly going to be in NYC in a few weeks for a couple of days. I would only have time to see two shows. Which two would you recommend?
Here's what I have narrowed it down to.
-American Idiot
-Sondheim On Sondheim
-Fences
-Promises, Promises
Here is a list of some shows I have seen and liked (in no particular order)
-In The Heights
-Next To Normal
-Jersey Boys
-West Side Story
-Spring Awakening
-Gypsy
-Wicked
-August: Osage County
-The Lion King
-The Life
-Ragtime
-Rent
-Chicago
-Aida
-A Chorus Line
-42nd Street
-Cabaret
-Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
-The Color Purple
-Dreamgirls
-Phantom of the Opera
Here's what I didn't like
-Cats
-Urinetown
-The Producers
-Beauty and the Beast
Thanks in advance for all your suggestions!

Posted: 5/2/10 at 1:54amSaw Promises Promises last week and was very disappointed. You will love Memphis. Its wonderful and Addams Family was fun too. DON'T MISS MEMPHIS! Enjoy your time in the city.

See Promises Promises- loved it
and
Memphis loved that to
avoid (in my opinion la cage which was an awful revival, Million Dollar Quartet)
and for plays
Janet McTeer and Dylan Baker are wonderful in God of Carnage.
obviously disagree with previous poster

I saw AI last week. The talent is wicked crazy, but the book is lacking. Basically, I walked away without caring about anyone, which obviously kept me from becoming invested.
I don't feel it was a waste of money by any means....but I wouldn't encouraging others to see it. (As I would to see a beautifully crafted piece of art like South Pacific before it closes.)
I'd also consider Next Fall and Hair.
