What Shows have Recouped?
#1What Shows have Recouped?
Posted: 6/17/09 at 1:01pmHas anything recouped yet in recent months? I would have thought God of Carnage recouped by now for sure, but haven't seen an announcement.

I assume you mean from the current season? I haven't heard of any. Yet.

Posted: 6/17/09 at 2:08pmI am not sure what else recouped from this current season. On perez hilton's website he wrote back in november that billy elliot has over 15 million dollars in advance sales, plus many guests are buying the merchandise. Sorry do not know how much they invested in the production to recoup. My guess they will recoup by october.

Posted: 6/17/09 at 3:17pmSlightly off topic but does anyone know what Billy Elliott "nut" is? It has to be quite high with all the kids in the cast. But the producers are raking in the dough at the Imperial. The average ticket last week was over $120.

yankees1253, since when is Prez Hilton a reliable source on anything?
Also, merchendise buying has nothing to do with ticket sales and how fast a show is going to recoup.

Posted: 6/17/09 at 4:37pmWhy not? I realize merch sales would be a very small part of the overall income, but it has to have some sort of effect, no? Does the money from merch sales not go to the show?

Posted: 6/17/09 at 11:34pmThe lists of the shows that recouped (and those that did not) should be in this week's Variety. Haven't been able to get a copy here - has anyone else seen it?
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
