I think it really depends on the maturity of the youth. As for a top age, I wouldn't put a cap on it. I have been in that theater with a bunch of 60, 70 and 80 year olds and they have absolutely adored it.

i dunno craig, when i went most of the people who werent enjoying themselves were older. the woman next to me was resorting to 'interesting' and 'different' to describe the show at intermission when I was loving it.

I think that the bottom age should be around 14 if they are mature enough. I know when I was that age my parents would have taken me to see it. Also, open minded grandparents would be fine.

according to telecharge (which does rate shows) says this:
"May be inappropriate for 12 years of age and under. (Avenue Q does employ puppets, however it is not suitable for young children.)"

Ummm I am 41 and my husband is 45. W have already lived the Avenue Q life, and we are now watching our children starting their Ave. Q lives. So I really think it all depends on th epersonality of people.

Well I think there's a different between an opinion not being liked and someone offering a different opinion. The original poster, I believe, wasn't looking for only one persons viewpoint, so the more the merrier I say. There's no right answer - ultimately it's really dependent on the individual.

Don't you think over 16 is a bit old for the cut off??
Come on now. What 16 year olds haven't heard the words fk, Pu$$y, sh!t, and others?
I am 15, and personally I have heard much worse words. As other 15 year olds have also.

Ok here goes. Last August I took a twelve year old. And she loved it. Granted she is very mature. She got everything and listens to the cd all the time. Also in the same trip I took her to see Beauty and The Beast. What can I say? She liked it too, except for KCR.

As this board seems to show, I don't think there's one right "age," it all really depends on the person. A certain 12-year old might love it but a certain 14-year old may not be ready for it yet. Just know the person you might want to bring, understand it is profanities, "puppet nudity," jokes about porn, racism, messages about life sucking, and decide if a person in question would understand and appreciate and be mature enough for it. I saw Rent when I was 12, I loved it, even though I didn't fully fully understand it the way I do now. And even when I was 4, my mother never had me watch "inapporpriate" things, I remember watching 90210 with her and in one episode when someone asked someone to sleep with them, I remember thinking oh that's cute they're gonna have a sleepover.

I took a friend of mine who is 13 to see the show last year. He loved it. Although, he is very mature and has been in broadway and off-broadway shows since he was 8. I think it would depend on the specific person and their maturity level.

I don't mean to interfear with the title of this post, but I was wondering what you think of the appropriat age for Rent. I am dying to see it but my mom says I am not mature enough. I am 13. Do you think I should see it?

10? That's a bit young. I say 10 is too young for most of the more adult Broadway shows (Chicago, Scoundrels, etc)
