As far as the top end of the age range goes... A lady shouldn't admit to her age, but I'm 45, and a huge fan of Avenue Q (well, as much as one can be without having seen it yet). It probably helps, however, that I'm a lot more "overgrown kid" than "grown up," watched Sesame Street in high school, still haven't found my purpose, blah blah blah. The characters are so engaging, and the cast is so talented, and the score is just so darn much fun, you really don't have to be the 20-something "target audience" to enjoy it and relate to it.
There is a sign at the point of sale that says may not be appropriate for age 12 and under. I took my 13 year old daughter to see it and she loved it. Only had to explain what porn was.
I think if they are mature at 12 it will be fine.
I started seeing Broadway at 5. I saw Hair at 11.
It was the first time I saw naked actors in a theater.
My parents exposed us early on.
My sister was 10, when we saw Hair.
I think that Hair is more risque then full puppet nudity.
LOL.
My nephews are 11 and 7 and live in Maryland. They are not mature enough for Q yet. I think it depends on the child.
My nephews would rather play basketball.

i went at 12, and got 98% of it. it was freakin hilarious, but than, my moms friends say i'm mature.
i took my brother to see it and he's 12. he loves the soundtrack and listens to it more than i do (which is saying alot). He absolutely loved the show and understood all of it. It was his first broadway show and probably the only one he'll ever truly enjoy since he's really not into broadway

It really depends on the kid. I say if they are old enough for South Park, they are old enough for Avenue Q, Though this leads to the same problem that South Park has. The kids only get the "dirty" jokes, but the REALLY funny bits dealing with life, politics or current events go straight over their heads.

LOL.
Yea I'm almost 15 and I saw it with my 13 year old sister over winter break (she was 12 at the time though). My mom had to cover her eyes during the sex scene haha..but she LOVED it and laughed really hard at everything.
I think it is good for teens (13-15) to see this show. All dirty jokes aside that they will laugh at, it also shows them that even adults don't know what they are doing! They might feel lost, and songs like Purpose, Fine Fine Line, and Ruv Someone just shows that they aren't alone.
Now saying that, I think parents should use their discretion when taking their children to see any show. They know (for the most part) what their kids are exposed to and how much they can handle. Some kids have a better grip of reality then others.
i was 12 when i saw avenue q and i got most of the jokes

I am taking my 14 year old twins in April. My daughter borrowed the c.d. from a friend (I knew nothing of the show at that time), and I must say that my husband and I were very "caught of guard" with some of the lyrics! But then, we kind of got used to it, and thought it was really funny. There still are a couple of lyrics I could do without...but here we are with 3rd row seats!

be prepared for simulated puppet sex. which, i should point out, is slightly more than just some hands under a sheet (as one might expect).
I'd say 14...and there really shouldn't be a limit on how old the audience members can be. The only DEFINITE no is for uber-conservative little schmucks. That's all...

I depends, my little brother is 13 and my sister almost 15 and I'd take them to it....even if they were younger(although I've never seen what those puppet do on stage).
However, my cousin's son, who is in 5th grade, I would never take to see the show(even if he were in college) because of his conservative christian background.

Thanks for the "heads up"...I really wasn't aware of the simulated puppet sex...I'm sure I'll think it's funny. Strange, though, sex jokes, etc., are as funny when you are sitting next to your kids!
