I have Promises, Promises (the revival), Steel Pier and a couple songs here and there. I was thinking Wicked or Young Frankenstein. I like the beat of them son't judge me :). What are some other good ones?
THOU SHALT NOT
BABY, IT'S YOU
THE CIVIL WAR
GREASE (2007 Revival)
BKLYN
Bad boy Jordan! :)
I always suggest "Allegro". It is not an original cast recording, it is a studio recording of the show. I just love it.

No judgment here, I love Wicked.
"Rent"
"The Wild Party" (Lippa)
"See what I Wanna See""
"You Never Know" (Studio Recording. It's great, but hard to find)
"The Scarlett Pimpernel"
Despite bad reviews, Don Sebesky's orchestrations for "Baby It's You" are great, as well as the actresses playing the Shirelles, and (of course) Beth Leavel as Florence Greenberg.
I HIGHLY recommended the 1987 Lincoln Center Theatre recording of "Anything Goes". The orchestrations are upbeat and brilliant. Patti LuPone as Reno Sweeney was (and she still is) a force to match Ethel Merman.
Another great one is the original Broadway cast recording of "Company". The music is fun and the lyrics are witty. I you don't care for most of the album, 'Company', 'Not Getting Married Today', 'The Little Things You Do Together', and 'The Ladies Who Lunch' are worth the full price by themselves.
If you like Kristen Chenoweth is "Promises, Promises", then you'll probably like her in the 1999 recording of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown". I always find myself wishing the orchestrations weren't so "big", but it's hard to hate a show were Kristen Chenoweth looks like Annie and Roger Bart is in a dog costume.

I meant the Young Frankenstein :P and I have a few Kristin songs from YAGMCB. I wish they had the Candide concert. She and Patti and Paul were awesome.
I always enjoy listening to the Rent, N2N and the In the Heights cast recordings. Currently obsessed with The Wild Party (Lippa) recording. But I also would like to have more to listen to so keep the suggestions coming!
I would say you should try NEXT TO NORMAL and RENT. Two quality cast recordings that every theatre fan should own.

Do you have any classic musicals in your collection? OKLAHOMA! or CAROUSEL or ANNIE GET YOUR GUN?
Try this thread whih has evolved over the years to cover about 10 shows per decade, a suggested basic library of cast albums that (I feel) everyone should have...

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Have you investigated the careers of the women who have preceded Chenoweth in being a major force in musical theater performance?
Gwen Verdon? Barbara Cooke? Helen Gallagher? Alison Fraser? Nanette Fabray? My favorite is probably Susan Johnson. Pearl Bailey is amazing, too.
You seem to respond more to performers than writers. I am more driven by writers. You should consider investigating these original cast recordings, and reading about the shows as you go:
Gwen Verdon - Sweet Charity, New Girl in Town (a true star that few can compare to)
Barbara Cooke - Candide, She Loves Me (shows her amazing range)
Helen Gallagher - Hazel Flagg (Gallagher struggled to become a full-fledged star, but she was a hard worker and had a featured role in Sweet Charity)
Alison Fraser - Romance/Romance, March of the Falsettos (wonderful comedienne and actress with a distinct voice)
Nanette Fabray - Make A Wish (I wish more of her performances were recorded)
Susan Johnson - The Most Happy Fella, Oh Captain! (an unparalleled belter who deserved to break through, but never quite did)
Pearl Bailey - House of Flowers, St. Louis Woman (Two beautiful recordings with amazing star quality from Bailey!)
Extra credit: Priscilla Gillette - Out of This World, The Golden Apple (an accomplished soprano who figures strong on both of these recordings. The Golden Apple is a musical everyone should know, and can serve as a guide to some of the most impressive performers of the 1950s)
Love to share the love! Best!
