I'm in NYC and had to stay an extra two nights. What are the easiest lotteries to win (non student)?
Thanks.

I guess you have to hope a low number of people come out.....
Unlike when I walked by Wicked!

How's this. There are 6 lotteries. Here they are (IMO) from easiest to hardest:
1. Hairspray
2. Rent (for now)
3. A Chorus Line
4. Drowsy
5. Ave Q (due to selling 12 seats)
6. Wicked
Drowsy and ACL are about equal from what I can see, but I think Drowsy has a busier location, so there's a bigger risk of people wandering by and signing up.

I think lately I'd move Drowsy up above A Chorus Line just by a notch and I'd actually move Hairspray further down. Since Jerry Mathers has been in, there've been a lot more people.
If you're alone, I'd say RENT. I've won it every time I've gone solo. Not always the case when I've put in for 2 tickets, but only 1 I've always gotten it.

Posted: 7/2/07 at 4:19pmA little tidbit about Hairspray: I heard the lotto tickets are awful compared to any other lottos that my friends have ever been to. In case that has any influence. However, i do so very love Hairspray...

Posted: 7/2/07 at 4:24pmI haven't been since Jerry Mathers started, so it may have gotten crazy. The seats are front row, and the stage is very high, but I'm over 6' tall so I'm not affected too badly.

Posted: 7/2/07 at 4:27pmThe problem with Hairspray is the seats are so close to the stage which is slighty higher than eye level when you are sitting so your neck has to tilt quite far back

Posted: 7/2/07 at 4:30pmi tried for hairspray last wednesday's matinee and it was very hard. all of the big groups and moms and tween daughters won... very unfair considering every other name the guy was for the big group of tourists that ALL got seats =[

Posted: 7/2/07 at 4:33pmbroadwayismylife... What made me so mad the last time I tried was the first name drawn was the mom of a mom/tween daughter pair who had JUST SEEN the matinee. Now, I'm all for supporting a show (I've seen pretty much everything I've seen multiple times), but that is ridiculous.

Posted: 7/2/07 at 4:35pmThe only thing about hairspray that bothers me is when it's very empty, and they draw anyway, and then let people shift around. What's the point of holding a drawing if you're going to let people move around? I don't want to get stuck on the far side because 2 couples behind me are allowed to go with their friends in front of me

Yeah that bugs me too. It all depends on who's running the lotto. Some let people shift and others don't. If I was called early...I'd like to keep my place in the line and not get bumped back and get the extreme side lotto seats.
I wouldn't say Hairspray or Chorus Line has been easy lately. This weekend we had 5 of us put our names in for both. Hairspray we all got turned away as did another group of 5 girls near us. We then headed over to Chorus Line, put 5 names in and we got one name called 2nd to last. A few couples and groups got turned away from there too.

Posted: 7/2/07 at 5:12pmThis is just crazy luck but the first time I did Wicked, I got it. But the first time I tried Hairspray AND Rent, I lost..... How's that for unusual.

Posted: 7/2/07 at 5:22pmI've tried Drowsy several times and always lost, but I seem to be pretty successful with Hairspray. I'd say it's the safest bet. What I like about the Drowsy, Hairspray and Q lotteries is that they draw it right in front of you. I think it's a bit bootleg how at Wicked (and apparently at Chorus Line), they disappear inside and then come out with the already chosen names.

Posted: 7/2/07 at 6:06pmI've played Wicked twice and won both times and played Hairspray at least 6 times and have never won. So it really depends.

But with Wicked he's right there at the doors. In plain sight really other than the doors are closed. I've watched him several times.
My friend Kristen is the lotto bomb. The first one she ever did was Wicked on a Saturday in the summer. She showed up at 11:55 and put her name in. 4th one drawn. And every other time I've lottoed with her she's won.

Posted: 7/5/07 at 3:15pmThe Hairspray stage is very high. I'm 6'3", and if I sat up straight I could see perfectly. If you are shorter than 6'. I'd strongly recommend getting a booster on your way in.
