What are the odds of the box office at the Neil Simon asking to see my credit card for a will call pick up?
#1What are the odds of the box office at the Neil Simon asking to see my credit card for a will call pick up?
Posted: 11/21/08 at 8:38amMy dad got me a ticket via TDF for Hairspray this saturday night. I am going to the city on a college trip and seeing with them Mary Poppins and going to see Hairspray that night. I am not going to be seeing my folks until I get home that night. Should I bring with me the conformation number or would that not even be needed?

Posted: 11/21/08 at 9:33amI have done will call about 15-20 times all at different theaters, and the only time anyone checked my credit card was at South Pacific. Every other time, they just hand over the tickets once I tell them my name. I think if you were to go right before show time 5-10mins before curtain time, everyone is so concerned with getting everyone in the theater that it’s just a mad dash and they just ask for your name and you’re on your way. I think one other time at Legally Blonde, they asked me for my middle initial too (which is on my credit card).

Posted: 11/21/08 at 9:38amDid he put the tickets in your name? If so, I would just have ID with me.

If you hand them the order confirmation number, they'll just look at the name and get the tickets. You won't even have to say a thing.
Otherwise, 99% of the time I've picked up tickets at the box office, I've never been asked for ID. I've just given my name. The exception, like the poster above, was at South Pacific (and before that, Cymbeline), where I was asked for both the order confirmation and my photo ID.

Posted: 11/21/08 at 10:01amI did will call last weekeng at Spring Awakening and they did ask for my credit card. If you have your dad call the box office and tell him that someone else will be picking them up, and he tells them who, it will probably be fine. (With telecharge, if someone else is picking them up, you just have to tell them who).

Posted: 11/21/08 at 10:09amA few times at Wicked they asked for my credit card and it wasn't in my name. I just told them that it wasn't me that bought it and gave them the info of the person that did buy the ticket. Every other theatre I had no problem.

Posted: 11/21/08 at 10:36amEvery time I've picked up tickets, I've had to show my credit card.

Posted: 11/21/08 at 10:54amAnd the ONLY time I've ever been asked anything was at the Kennedy Center in DC. They didn't even want the credit card - they just asked for confirmation of my name and address. It sounds like it all depends on who's sitting behind the window!

Posted: 11/21/08 at 11:03amMamie, I think you're right. It ALL depends on who is behind the window, and what mood they're in at that particular moment. I once bought TDF tickets for two friends, and I was not going to be present with them when they picked up. TDF told me to write a letter stating they had the authority to pick up and use the tickets. I did this, but my friend said when she tried to present the letter to the attendant (at the Hirschfield box office), he waved it away and just got her the tickets.

Posted: 11/21/08 at 11:10amDo you think that being that it is my parent that having the same last name will help out or not?

Posted: 11/21/08 at 11:16amDo you know if he bought it in his own name or in yours? If it's in your name, all you need to do is show your ID if asked. Does your id show your home address and is it the same as your dad's? That would be the other 'check' for them. I can't imagine them expecting you to be carrying your dad's credit card!

I have no idea what he answer to your question might be, but I just had to add...
When I first read your post, I admit that I, too, was wondering what the odds of Neil Simon asking for your credit card would be? Seems He'd be too busy to work at a box office!
HAHA!
Time for new contacts!

Ask him to put the ticket in your name~that's what I did with my ticket for A TALE OF TWO CITIES (which I did not go) I gave it to algiotir and he was able to get it.
Sometimes~they dont even check specially when they are busy (example 30 mins before the show) they'll just ask the name and give you the TDF tixs.
Good Luck!

Back in 2001 I took my mom to see The Music Man at the Neil Simon, and she didn't bring the tickets (which were mailed to her house in Chicago). She said that she didn't think she'd need them, that they would "know" we had tickets, God bless her. But, when went to the box office with our story, and they printed out new tickets, and didn't even ask for an ID, credit card or anything.
And.....I buy tickets online probably about 75% of the time, and you could see in my sig how often I see shows, and I cannot ever remember a time that I was asked for the credit card. Even when I forgot two of my 8 tickets for Phantom--they just printed out new ones!

Posted: 11/21/08 at 4:45pmI don't remember if my dad ordered the ticket is his name with his credit card or if he used my mom's credit card and they are under her name. Either way we all live in the same house and have the same last name and the same address. If I recall correctly Nederlander theatres don't really ask for a credit card when picking up tickets. It is the Subert theatres that do. Am I correct when I say this?

Winston - My boyfriend ordered tickets as a present for my daughter. We went to the box office to pick them up. They were supposed to be in my name, but - no tickets. They were under his name. They handed them over to me. He was in London and I had no confirmation number or anything. They just handed them over. The only time I had to have the credit card number was when we had tickets to Pirate Queen and they closed before our show and I had to call Ticketmaster to ask for a refund.
You should be fine, but ask Pops for the confirmation number just in case.
Enjoy!

Posted: 11/21/08 at 8:02pmWhy didn't your dad just print the ticket at home and avoid all this? Would you send your child into the city with this uncertainty?

Posted: 11/21/08 at 8:13pmDAME, When you get tickets on TDF they either mail them to you or they are held at will call. If he got the hairspray tickets on Ticketmaster then he would have easily just emailed me the ticket to print out on my own.

Posted: 11/21/08 at 8:35pmHaving worked in a Box Office, Will Call ticket holders are usually asked to present the credit card the ticket was booked on AND photo I.D. However, in your case if you have a letter from your father/mother this should suffice.
#22re: What are the odds of the box office at the Neil Simon asking to see my
Posted: 11/21/08 at 8:55pmJust slide the I.D. under the window as you say your name and, as a result, they've never asked for my credit card.
