Nothing like the BC/EFA Flea Market - the place where all of us buy theatery stuff for the hell of it because it's (generally) cheap. And all the money goes to an excellent cause.
I'm in the market a Hedda Gabler (Mary-Louise Parker) window card and, as I have been for the past few years, Avenue Q puppets that were sold once upon a time for Broadway Cares and can now be found once in a blue moon on ebay.
What are you all hoping to find this year?

"Avenue Q puppets that were sold once upon a time for Broadway Cares and can now be found once in a blue moon on ebay. "
What are those you speak of? I never saw them...
I'm looking for Avenue Q stuff, N2N stuff and Spelling Bee stuff (although I'm sure there won't be much, if any.) I've never been to the flea market before so I'm quite excited!
*When people say they buy shirts from a particular show at the flea market, are they speaking of the shirts that are sold in the theatre for a lot more money?

Posted: 9/23/09 at 1:39pmI think I'm (not-so) secretly hoping that some stuff from the Company revival might pop up. Other than that, I can't really think of anything specific I'm in the market for that I'd have a realistic chance of finding.

There are tables and tables piled with shirts that people rummage through and buy, mostly ones that are left over from when they were sold at the theatre. I remember seeing a bunch of "Can You Please Use That In A Sentence?" shirts last year from Spelling Bee.

SweetQ, most of the shirts I've seen in the past have been from shows that have closed and are getting rid of excess stuff for a good cause. (CyCoSpaz2 beat me to it!)
I'm not really looking for anything specific. I figure I'll wander and see what treasures I find!

aha! Thanks for the answers
I guess shows that have closed but are touring will not be selling their merchandise at the flea market?
Yankee, do you have a picture of the puppets? How much do they usually sell for?

Posted: 9/23/09 at 1:46pmClosed shows often have tables with other shows. Or, in the case of GREY GARDENS last year, they had their own table which got rid of all the extra merchandising crap that never sold - tshirts, buttons, etc.

Posted: 9/23/09 at 1:46pmI hope to find some good souvenir programs, like the one for The Secret Garden I picked up last year.
#10re: What are you hoping to find at this year's Flea Market?
Posted: 9/23/09 at 1:47pmI'm not looking for anything specific either. I'm actually worried that I won't find anything. I'm sure that won't be the case though. When my animal shelter does our yard sale twice a year, I end up bringing something home everyday that I'm there. Even before the sale opens to the public.

I'm not much of a collector so I don't have any, particular, items in mind other than a few Chatternox DVDs. If I find a treasure I find a treasure but I won't hunt for anything.

Hard to say. Some shows have different merchendise than the tour.

I doubt they even exist anymore, but I'd love one of the long neon lights from Passing Strange.
Also, I wouldn't mind coming across Elizabeth Stanley's baton from Cry-Baby.

I'll probably scope out the tables for a bit in the middle of the day when I'm on a break from working one of the tables, not really looking for anything in particular, though I'd love to find one of the SUNDAY IN THE PARK revival sweatshirts they were selling at Roundabout. I didn't buy one at the show cause they were $50, and if there were any extras I'm sure they sold last year, but maybe one'll turn up.
Or if anyone here has one they'd like to get rid of!

They weren't selling merchandise yet when I saw WAITING FOR GODOT last year, so I'm really hoping to find one of the "I can't, I'm waiting for Godot" T-shirts.
The T-shirts aren't necessarily all from closed shows. Last year I found a WICKED T-shirt that is a style they don't sell in the theater anymore. (Don't judge me, I'm not a crazy Wicked fan, I just happen to like the style of the shirt and the lyric it quoted.)

Cape Twirl - I didn't see a Sunday sweatshirt last year either. I ended up getting mine for half price on like the last day of the show.

Comma splices make my head hurt. Not that this is a grammar board.

Since the sentence can work with or without the word "particular" my use of commas is correct.
"I don't have any" and "items in mind" are not independent clauses.

In this case, "particular" is not a clause, just an adverb.
It's like saying, "I am, very, sleepy." The sentence technically works without "very," but that doesn't mean you separate it with commas.

Actually, it's not correct. You can't just put commas around any word that isn't necessary in the sentence. That's not the rule for single words, it's the rule for phrases. In this case, you would put commas around something that is a modifier, but "particular" is not a modifier. It is just part of the sentence. Seriously, google the phrase you used and see if any of the similar ones put commas around "particular."
I'm not going to argue about commas on a Broadway board; I just saw it and it struck me so I thought I'd mention it. No harm either way.
