just saw Night & Day the cole porter story with Cary Grant

what an odd film that probably had almost nothing to do with coles actual life, other than the music and that he went to yale, hurt his leg from a horse fall, and married a girl named linda...

a saving grace in the movie was mary martin singing

Have you seen the Kevin Kline Porter biopic from the last decade? It's a bit more sensationalistic and a lot more melodramatic but has excellent performances.

Lets misbehave

its de lovely

and others. Also a big kevin kline fan so it was a much easier sell for me than cary grant as cole(pul-ease!)

All the musical numbers are exceedingly well done, and the actors are all terrific. The Angel Gabriel gimmick can be a tad grating but it's worth it.

The 1974 London Mermaid Theatre Revue COLE is worth seeking out. I don't believe it has been mentioned. RCA produced a double-LP vinyl which has an excellent sound quality for a live recording. Someone published a separate live recording of the show, linked below.

I usually agree with you, but emphatically no on this. Noel Coward's forte was being clever; Cole Porter was clever, but he also wrote some of the most beautiful songs ever written. His portfolio includes orders of magnitudes more classics than Noel Coward.

love that we can share these incredibly gifted composers, that literally shaped the music that multiple generations listened to, with many of the younger generations on this board that see Sondheim or ALW as the "golden oldies"

Porter, Rodgers, Hart, the Gershwins, Berlin, Kern, Hammerstein, Weill. Lerner & Loewe, Loesser and others left an incredible body for beautiful works, and Im happy people are tuning in for these forums to learn more about the golden age of composers and i welcome you all....

Excited to have just added my 400th unique cole porter song to my cole porter playlist and goal to collect the best recordings/versions of every cole song that's ever been digitally recorded: 407 down, probably about 200 to go...(i think about 250 songs have never been digitally recorded)

LOVE LOVE LOVE Porter's Aladdin.

Both the title song and "I Adore You" are at the top of my list for most gorgeously lilting Porter melodies. And the opening number "Come To The Supermarket" is delicious too.
