Of course I like "The Hammer" and "The Smell of Rebellion" but "Naughty" is creeping up on my interest meter.

'The smell of rebellion'. Aside from Bertie Carvel's perfect delivery, it's just pure, villainous, theatrical bliss, Tim Minchin is a genius.

Also, the rapturous piano introduction to 'Quiet' gets me every single time I hear it.

When I Grow Up- always and forever


The staging of it is so simple and beautiful, if I'm having a bad day, it'll send me into tears every time.


That being said, 'Telly' has my flat out fav line of any musical of the past few years: "All I know I learned from telly/the bigger the telly the smarter the man/You can tell from my big telly/just what a clever fellow I am."

I worship you, Tim Minchin.

I don't have the recording, but when I saw it, the one number that stood out above and beyond the rest was the children's 'A to Zed' number, with the blocks? That was done brilliantly. What's that one called?

"Naughty," "When I Grow Up," and "Quiet" were my inital favorites. With repeated listenings "My House" (especially with the counterpoint with the Father/Escapologist) and "The School Song" have really moved up there as well. I love the underlying reciting of the A-B-Cs in the second half of "The School Song" hitting a word or similar sound with each letter.

I also love the reprise of When I Grow Up. It blends in beautifully with the Naughty extract and creates the most empowering of songs.
