Well, yeah. I know that it is almost technically accepted that men don't "belt". I disagree just based on the fact that if a guy wants a really strong sound they push their chest voice up and if they want a lighter sound that's still belt-esque they mix their voice then push that a bit to make it sound big.
So, to avoid confusion, when I refer to belting I'm just talking about a stronger use of chest in the higher range of the male voice.
So Jeremy Jordan is clearly more of a natural "belter". His Santa Fe is really strong and it seems much more effortless. I wouldn't say Corey's is bad. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeNdr3xS-Ng)
I just think his mixed voice is really where his voice excels. Here's a cover he sang. He's kind of just fooling around but it really highlights his mix. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqAfT-NTX3Q)
So what's your opinion. Do you think Corey should be "belting" Santa Fe or singing it in a more mixed coordination (would that ruin the song?). I think he plays the character very well though.
If you've seen the show. Please tell me if there's a difference in how he's performing the song daily
To be clear. Obviously the show I'm talking about is Newsies and I've got nothing against Corey. I think in some ways he actually makes a better Jack Kelly. I'm just not so sure if he sounds his best when singing this way

Then, I saw him earlier this year. He looked bored and completely over it. His songs were not good, he looked strained. Corey has a great career ahead of him, but I hope he leaves Newsies in September so someone else, who doesn't act bored as hell, can make the show fresh and fun again.
