What happened to Parade?
#1What happened to Parade?
Posted: 1/27/08 at 9:18pmI apologize, but I can't find any articles or threads. I thought the Donmar Parade was moving to the West End, but I can't find any information about it. Is that not happening now?

Posted: 1/27/08 at 9:21pmI was in London for four months around the time of the Donmar's production (which was stunning) and never heard anything about a transfer except here. So as far as I know, it was simply a rumor.

Posted: 1/28/08 at 12:43amI bought the CD of the Donmar production, and I am absolutely in love with it. I thought the theatre this production was in IS a West End theatre? I'm not familiar with the West End...so was the production the equivalent to an Off Broadway production?

The Donmar Warehouse is in Covent Garden and is absolutely tiny. There are several "west end" theaters near it, however the size and fact that it's subsidized (not-for-profit) make it considered not technically West End. When transfer rumors were started it was said that it Parade was going to try a larger theater, however I never heard if it was just to extend the run briefly (as The Busch Theatre's production of Elling did when it extended and moved to the Trafalger Studios) or try to make as a "West End" show.
Like I said, I never say anything about the transfer off the boards, so who knows.

It's not transferring to the West End, but the Donmar team is in talks to present that production in the States at a major U.S. regional theatre in spring 2009.

Posted: 1/28/08 at 12:57pmOh that'd be fantastic!! Have you heard if they're trying to get the same cast back? I hope they're able to get Lara Pulver, Shaun Escoffery and Bertie Carvel back. They really stole the show...I also hope they don't bring Jayne Wisener over...her voice is okay but she's creepy and can't really act.

I will go ANYWHERE in the United States to see this show, if what Michael Bennett says is true.
Oh my god I hope its true.

Posted: 1/28/08 at 5:34pmThat makes sense MB. It will be nice to see it here eventually but hopefully we won't have to wait too soon. Thanks for the updates.

Posted: 4/21/09 at 3:39amThe Donmar recording of Parade is brilliant. So different from the Broadway recording which is brilliant too. But...any development on the transfer?

It's opening at the Mark Taper Forum in LA sometime in September (as per the Variety link below).
