My aunt was checking Ticketmaster for Hamilton resale, and noticed that they were all listed two hours before the show, and then were pulled down one hour before the show. She was told they don't go back to the box office... so what happens to those tickets? Is that where the cancellation line comes from? Just curious.

I can't fully answer your question....but if those are "cancelation line" tix...then they would go back to box office.

Ticketmaster does not buy those tickets, so they wouldn't be able to send them to the box office. The seller sets their price and TM adds their fee and that's the cost.

I guess if they don't sell, they become unused seats

When i think about the Hamilton tickets that are still listed at high prices even to the end, I sometimes speculate that some of the tickets offered for re-sale may be from individuals who want to see the show but then after buying tickets, noticed the buying frenzy and thought that maybe it would be worth giving up their chance to see the show for a few hundred dollars in profit.  So they list it at a profit, and if someone takes it, they have enough money to buy another ticket in the next on-sale round plus tickets to some other shows.  And if no one takes it, they go see the show.  If only scalpers with no interest in the show were re-selling tickets, one presumes that they would lower the price to face value at some point towards the end in order to break even rather than remaining hundreds of dollars in debt by not selling them at all.  Of course, it's also possible that a scalper buys so many tickets that they can absorb a loss on a few of them as long as the others are profitable.

Not for Hamilton or theater in general, but I have totally done that for shows... I'm either making $400 or going to this concert, let's see which happens!
