Do you actually want people to speculate what would have happened, if these shows were done by different composers?

(It seems a little more interesting than just listing random shows :P).

Gee, I think back in 2004 I did an entire musical review in LA entitled - What If? with just this very premise. If you'd like to see a few of the bits, here's the link to What if Bock and Harnick, instead of writing Fiddler On The Roof, had written A Chorus Line.

Other links are on that page.

Jekyll & Hyde by Sondheim isn't too hard to imagine. One of the early demos for the show has an opening number entitled "The Ballad of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" which comes complete with several reprises just like Sweeney Todd. Updated On: 12/24/09 at 07:44 PM

Actually (musically) Jekyll and Hyde has always reminded me a little of Sweeney Todd. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine Sondheim doing the show. I'm actually surprised he didn't get to it first, as it sounds like it's right up his alley.

I didn't think the 'Sweeney inspiration' could become any more shameless than the endless reprises of "Facade" in the Broadway production. That's interesting.

I wonder what a Sondheim GYPSY would have been like (which would have happened I guess if Merman wasn't sceptical of his talents).

What if Sondheim had taken on the job of writng the Batman musical, instead of Jim Steinman?

Didn't "The Musical of Musicals" cover this concept--at least for OKLAHOMA?
