What if they took SHREK THE MUSICAL and made it the 5th animated Shrek film?

They would be truly milking the franchise...but I bet it would work well, better than on stage. With the amount of $$$ the 4th managed to bring in, I can't imagine it being too big a financial risk.

Thoughts?

lol, in hindsight I DID just remember that. But STILL. When I say '5th' I don't literally mean the 5th in terms of storylines, I want to convey 5th as in it would be a major Shrek release, like the first 4 in terms of publicity, budget etc.

If they did do that, I think they should do it mostly live action, but with CGI Dragon, Donkey, etc. to avoid looking exactly like the first film.

I think the problem is that, unlike Hairspray, there are 3 additional films/storylines in the series. The musical is the same story as the 1st film, so it wouldn't make much sense.

Dreamworks said that "Shrek Forever After" was the final film. They are now focusing on other projects like sequels to "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Kung-Fu Panda." There will also be a "Puss in Boots" spinoff.
