"Bal, you are my new favorite person."
Your avatar is my new favourite person. "It's a pretty rock, with speckles! Vendetta GAVE it to me!" :) Muchas Gracias.
"Fiyero in Wicked. They just threw out his back story and made him just a love interest."
But isn't a love interest a nice plot device? I'm not a big Wicked fan, you can probably tell, but I believe that how deep the friendship of Elphaba and Glinda is really emphasized by Glinda's disregarding losing her boyfriend to the green girl. It shows how much the character changes from a greedy, self-absorbed 'popular' girl to a mature woman who understands both friendship and priorities. Besides that, just because Fiyero has been changed to a un-diamonded white boy who dates Glinda doesn't mean he's not a valuable character to the show. When comparing a book and musical that are so drastically different, I usually find it best to look at the book and musical (or movie, as the case may be) as two seperate entities, and enjoy them both on seperate levels. Or, in Wicked's case, try my best to enjoy them.
"LostWallflower, funny you should mention the kid in Assassins. Yeah, it just threw me a bit when I saw it and now when I listen to it to hear him singing "Something Just Broke". The adults made sense of course but it just seems to me that a kid that age would not be that affected. Just my thoughts!"
My mother has spoken about the Kennedy assassination a couple of times to me. While we're both Canadian, and always have been, it affected her very deeply and she was only fifteen. It wasn't the loss of the US President so much as the reactions of the adults around her, the coverage, and the power of this one small man (LEe Harvey Oswald) to bring a nation, quite literally, to a standstill. I haven't heard the song in awhile, but I think it would be interesting to delve deeper into the kid's emotions. I'm sure a child would be parroting a lot of what he'd be hearing adults saying about the president's murder.
And some children are more perceptive than you might think.
Anyways, I hope I haven't offended you. I don't want to seem like I'm attacking you, I'm just in a typing sort of mood and am up for a good debate. No hard feelings?
None at all. And Having read the book and seen the show, I do look at them as seperate entities. I really enjoyed the show. I just wasn't crazy about the character Fieryo in the show. Yes partly because I read the book, but knowing me, even if I had not read the book my thoughts would be the same.
And trust me, I know how perceptive children can be with 6 nephews and nieces and 7 great nephews and nieces!! I may not have expressed my feelings on that properly and to tell you the truth, I really can't put it into words! It may be his voice. It's fine but...oh I don't know!!! lol I'm going to go to dinner now!! :)

I know this might sound artificial, but my college professor always emphasizes on how every character has a purpose and advances the story. These characters tells a part of the story, they are either part of the obsticle or the solution. Every chacater, no matter how boring or worthless they are, are there for a reason. A writer will not add people just to add people, well good writers!
Now, you can argue that a character is boring, but not important? I think not!
Sara's Father? Do you mean Uncle Arvide? That's her Uncle. And he's there to teach her that it's ok to love all kinds of people. Where as Sara believes that her love will be completely straight laced and perfect, until her beloved Uncle Arvide comes along that is. And More I Cannot Wish You is a beautiful piece
