There should be an ensemble award.
The ensembles of shows always get overlooked, even though many of them are sooo talented.

Maybe, I know I'm crazy but a best long running show. So you have to be running for more then 3 years or something to take part in it.

Best Ensemble for sure!
Being in the ensemble isn't always easy and many ensembles are filled with extremely talented people! Ensembles are often the heart of the show.

Posted: 5/14/08 at 1:03amNot a new slot, but I'd love to see a rule change that if only 3 shows are worthy of a nomination in a given category, then they only have to nominate 3 shows. Sometimes that 4th show admission to fill out the category is just painful.

Best Ensemble, in the way of say the SAG Awards Best Ensemble category in which they truly acknowledge every significant performance of the piece. This year the likes of SEAFARER, TOP GIRLS, IS HE DEAD?, AUGUST: OC, THE HOMECOMING, IN THE HEIGHTS, PASSING STRANGE, GYPSY, and SOUTH PACIFIC would probably have been strong contenders for the category.
I wouldn't think a Best Ensemble category for the actual ensemble of a musical is necessary though. I remember someone on this site, can't remember who, mentioned how this award would basically make everyone in the chorus a Tony-winner which would sort of diminish the value of the award.
Best Song is unnecessary.
I do like the idea of Best Benefit, that's a great idea. But also, how many Tony voters would actually be able to make it to one-night-only benefit performances?

I like the Drama Desk's new category, Outstanding Projection and Video Design. I mean, if it got a Tony category, that might encourage productions to use it where they really don't need it just so they might get a nomination, which would be bad, but if theatre continues the trend naturally, then certainly it should be adopted. And I'd want 'Macbeth' to take it this year.
Best Ensemble would be nice, but would that then result in a Drama Desk thang where an individual actor cannot be nominated if their company is nominated, or would you rework it somewhat?
*sigh* Still wish Best Replacement had worked out.
