Bounce is still a fairly large show. I'd say a play is probably going into the Walter Kerr because none of the upcoming musicals seem to be the right size for the Walter Kerr.

What about Speed the Plow or Fences?

I think The Visit could be a good fit, RentBoy. It doesn't seem like a huge show.

Yeah, true. But one, It hasn't announced any plans for a transfer, and two, it has some notable names in it, so they may want to capitalize on that and go for a comfortable house as opposed to something small or huge.

-- "We don't even know if THE VISIT is transferring yet though."
Yes, you're right. I don't think anyone was suggesting otherwise. Speaking for myself at least, I WANT it to transfer and it NEEDS to transfer and if it does, I would LOVE to see it going into the Walter Kerr. That space would be a lovely fit for this production.
Additionally, I DO believe that the upcoming availability of this theatre may help sway any prospective producers mulling over brining "The Visit" to New York. It might be too good to pass up.

Actually, "The Visit" is a fairly ideal size for the Walter Kerr. It's not a big show at all. It is currently playing in a very modest, intimate space at Signature and that environment serves the piece extremely well. It should absolutely be transferred to Broadway, but should play one of the smaller, more intimate houses so the Kerr is a wonderful option.

Why not foa? It's obviously a much safer choice and that way would sell out quicker...when was the last time a show sold out the Palace or the Marquis?

It would sell out quicker in the Helen Hayes, too. But that doesn't mean the weekly nut would cover production costs. We have no idea how big this show is going to be...but, with the A-list team behind it, I have a feeling it's going to be quite large.
My guess would be the Broadhurst.
NINE TO FIVE is scheduled to hit Broadway in the spring of 2009. EQUUS will vacate the Broadhurst in February and we know there's no possibility for an extension with Radcliffe's filming schedule for the last Potter movie.
I'm gonna bet on the Broadhurst.

Here are some of the shows that are either rumored or confirmed to be coming in the Fall. My guess would be one of these:
Dividing the Estate
American Buffalo w/ John Leguizamo
Orphans w/ Al Pacino
Reasons to be Pretty
Me, Myself and I w/ Kathleen Turner
Edit: Lincoln Center Theater website is listing Dividing the Estate as going into the Booth, performances start October 23.

9 to 5 is too large for the Broadhurst. I believe at this point their first choice is the Hirschfeld, which obviously depends on how well Tale of Two Cities does.

First choices don't always work out.
I bet a lot of money the producers already have a hold on the Broadhurst just in case the Hirschfeld doesn't work out.

No, the Broadhurst is too small. They want a theater with a larger backstage area and seating capacity somewhere in the 1300-1600 range. If not the Hirschfeld, then the Marquis or the Palace will do.

And somebody also has a "hold" on the Walter Kerr since A CATERED AFFAIR wasn't bleeding out that much.

Higgins, yes, that all makes sense, but again, I'm basing all my opinions off of the shows that are "confirmed" for next year. We can wish all we want, but nothing has been said about a transfer for "The Visit."

"The Visit" is transferring spring of '09.

The Marquis has pretty much already been claimed by WEST SIDE STORY, so that's out.
The Palace may or may not still be housing LEGALLY BLONDE depending on the popularity of the new star chosen by the reality show.
So, we shall see.
