I think Assassins would be a good choice.

Kids could apply their history classwork to this show.

What about Oklahoma?

A few years ago, a junior high in my area did Oklahoma. Laurie, Ado Annie, and the EverlastingGiggler (whatever her name was) were great for a bunch of thirteen-year-olds, but I will never forget that poor boy who played Curly. Poor pre-pubescent kid. I think he sang higher than Laurie.

i definitely agree with millie and BATB.

a few schools in my area have done BATB quite well in the past few years.

no one has tried millie around me yet, but provided you have a good millie (who isn't trying to belt too high if she can't, a mix would be FINE!) and a good jimmy, i think it could be done quite well.

My school is doing the first amateur production of Thoroughly Modern Millie!! We open on February 8. (I'm in the ensemble) www.lvacademytheatre.org

So far Millie seems like it would be hard for a normal high school to mount - I'm at a performing arts high school. The score is kind of crazy for the musicians (I think we have 25 pit musicians, we start rehearsing with them tomorrow), and the set involves a turntable and platforms and stairs. There's a lot of dancing, especially tap, which can be hard to pull off if you don't have tappers (some of the best dancers in our show are having trouble with the tap because they haven't done it before). I'm probably just being snobby, but I don't know.

Beauty and the Beast, for sure. We did it last year (I was a napkin! hehe) and it was honestly one of the best experiences I've ever had. It's SO fun. We were lucky enough to have spectacular costumes and sets (total cost - about $100,000, I think), but I think it would be a good show to do even if you don't have the budget for something amazing.

I think Little Women will be done at colleges more than high schools because of the cast size.

Among high schools, when the rights become available I think Wicked is going to be done by anyone who can afford to do it. Think about it, the generation that is in love with the show now will be selecting and directing the shows in 15-20 years.

Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

Into the woods is being done alot around my area including my school. I don't think any of the shows named could do good, g-d help us if rent and wicked become availible. Producers and DRS are too risque and Hairspray is very much type casted.
