We moved from Boston to California last fall and although we had a great Thanksgiving visit to NYC with tons of theater, the distance from here to there has made me lose touch with all the options. I'm comfortable with my ON Broadway knowledge (torn about Shucked), but have very little info on Off Broadway shows.
We are in town this weekend from Friday to Sunday and hope to see 4 or 5 shows. Will be doing all the shopping at TKTS, so looking for info on what's good Off Broadway now that we might like.
As an idea to what we like, these are our favorite shows from 2022 (out of 19 seen):
The Bedwetter
The Piano Lesson
Clyde's
Into the Woods
Topdog/Underdog

First of all most of the best off broadway stuff isn’t available at TKTS they only have a small portion of what off broadway has to offer. Imo the best show off broadway right now is Public Obscenities at SohoRep, it’s technically sold out, but they do their cancellation as a rush and I found it easy to get in

- The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart - Fun and creative, highly recommend!
- Wolf Play - I didn't care much about it, but everybody I know loved it. So it might be your thing.
- Public Obscenities - I liked it, but didn't love it. It just extended another week. Very slow-paced, with a lot of seemingly mundane scenes, you need to be in the right mindset to be able to get into it
- White Girl in Danger - The response so far has been extremely polarizing. As I understand, they're still cutting things, since it's in early preview. If you liked A Strange Loop, you might like this.

If you're looking for ticket deals, 20@20 is currently happening also (https://www.20at20.com/shows). Not sure that there's anything particularly prestigious on there but could be a good chance to knock out a few shows that are floating around (Drunk Shakespeare is particularly fun).
I loved Wolf Play so I'd definitely recommend that. How to Defend Yourself is also quite entertaining and definitely tackles some subjects that I haven't seen talked about publicly before, though it's uneven in parts. I've heard mixed to positive things about The Harder They Come, so that could be a possibility as well, especially if you liked Topdog/Underdog

Play Co is remounting Sarah Einspanier's LUNCH BUNCH - originally staged at Club Thumb's Summerworks.
Highly recommended!
