2025-2026 Broadway Season Jan 1 2026, 01:18:20 PM
I have come around to Oedipus being a revival. These classic non-English plays almost always get a new translation when produced on Broadway, and we can’t call each one a new play just because it’s the first time that specific translation is staged. Similar examples include Uncle Vanya (new translation by Heidi Schreck) and A Doll’s House (new translation by Amy Herzog) from a few years ago. Both were considered revivals.
This Oedipus does change a lot of plot details

Am I the only one who thinks Oedipus should be considered as a new play?

Not That Kinda Gal (Schmigadoon!, this is a new song) https://www.youtube.com/shorts/kzXoY5ZTNjU
Stuff It Down Inside (The Seat of Our Pants): https://www.tiktok.com/@publictheaterny/video/7569375421091908895
Big Tree Religion (Redwood, not sure if this song is new for Broadway or not) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anC5NYQ-Z0E
I Got the Stuff (The Oscar Micheaux Project, technically this one is a workshop production, but it sold tickets and played 6 performances) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BdS3lswC0k

Best New Showtunes of 2025 - Literally! Dec 27 2025, 05:08:52 PM
Santa Cruz (Night Side Songs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F05rhTkF0Mo
Crush (Beau) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWv0q7HZOOA
Digging (Mexodus) https://m.soundcloud.com/brian-quijada-913852263/black-and-brown-instrumental
Childish Thing (Milions) https://www.adamguettel.com/millions
Edited to add notes: Both Beau and Mexodus have had productions before 2025. 2025 is the year they premiered in New York. You could argue that previous productions are developmental and the NY ones are the finished version. But I understand if they don't qualify.

New Survey: Gen-Z and Millennials Willing To Pay 3.5X more for Broadway Tickets Jul 30 2025, 12:07:16 AM
I can't speak for others, but as a millennial who sees 100 shows a year, if you increase ticket prices by 3.5x, I'll be ready to end my two decades of theater obsession. When the last row of the balcony costs over $100 in a Broadway house, it's no longer an art form for the people (I mean, it's already a luxury for many). To producers who see this report as an opportunity, go ahead and try. I'm sure you won't miss my 80 bucks. But I doubt I'm alone.

Roald Dahl’s THE WITCHES musical by Malloy & Kirkwood to premiere this fall Jun 26 2025, 12:54:56 PM
The album drops at midnight London time, which is 7pm in New York, when Dave Malloy with the original cast starts the Ghost Quartet reunion tonight. How nice!

Adam Guettel & Bob Martin's MILLIONS will premiere at Alliance Theatre in Spring 2025, directed by Bartlett Sher May 15 2025, 12:04:24 AM
I also saw the first preview. While I agree about the sound issues, that's what previews are for. I’m sure they’ll be fixed soon.
The score was gorgeous! It’s more accessible than Wine & Roses and Floyd Collins, but groovier and more upbeat than Piazza. You can hear it in the demos (Childish Things, Feel for This) on Adam’s website. March Is a Windy Month is the Fable of the show. It grows on me with every listen. Audra McDonald recorded it on her album

Oratorio for Living Things at ars nova Apr 11 2025, 01:40:53 PM
Animal Wisdom was produced 4 years ago during the pandemic as a virtual show by Bushwick Starr and Woolly Mammoth Theatre. I watched the stream and loved it! Can't wait to revisit both shows! What a year for Heather Christian!

ALL IN: COMEDY ABOUT LOVE Previews Dec 12 2024, 01:00:08 AM

This felt like a glorified 92Y event, charging people upwards of $400 to watch famous people read from binders in chairs doesn't really match up, I would have much rather seen people act out the stories like a Christopher Durang kind of evening
I havea ticket for later in the r

Your Favorite Oct 3 2024, 10:15:29 PM
Soft Power just played Signature Theatre in Arlington VA last month. And The Bedwetter will be done at Arena Stage in DC early next year.
A friend of mine asked Andrew R. Butler about Rags Parkland during Stereophonic's Off-Broadway run, and iirc he said it may go to DC next. But with Stereophonic on Broadway, not sure where it stands now.

New Alfred Hitchc0ck musical will premiere at the Theatre Royal Bath in the spring Aug 1 2024, 12:14:03 PM

I was shocked and ecstatic to see Steven's name! I LOVE A Gentleman's Guide, and attended his memorial concert last month. I thought that was the end of it. Little did I know he has a new musical cooked up all this time. I hope it transfers, or at the very least, record an album.

Is Mr. Cinders (1928) in the public domain? Jul 16 2024, 02:22:16 PM
Mr. Cinders, the gender-reversed Cinderella musical written by Vivian Ellis and Richard Myers, first performed in 1928 in the UK, 1929 in London, has one of my favorite scores. By the British copyright law, which is death of author + 70 years, it won't enter the public domain until 2066. But under the American copyright law, publication date + 95 years, it seems it should have entered the public domain this year. I know close to nothing about copyright laws. Is the show in public dom

He did a concert of Bobby Darin songs at 92Y a few years back. I had wondered if that was meant for something more.
