I was looking for a ticket for May and there are really good seats available....but I don't want to pay $120 unless I feel it's worth it. Anyone have comments on this show or know if there will be discount codes (although I am sure there will be if it opens and it isn't reviewed well)?
I saw it in LA and I would recommend that you wait for a discount ticket.
Classic! The cheapest tickets for this show are $61. I really hope its on TDF for previews or they have a decent student rush policy.
You sound like the tourists who will only go to revivals, stunt casts, or shows-made-from-movies - needing a sure thing. If you want to wait for the reviews, then wait. If you don't want to risk it, then buy your ticket now.
I'm with Gypsy1527...and hoping that it will be on tdf for previews!
No, I sound like a person who is interested in the buzz on a show because I am on a budget and I don't want to spend $120 on something that isn't worth it. I am just interested in opinions. Relax Rathnait62....
*do not* spend $120. at the very least, there will be a discount code for previews.
I hear it's supposed to be fantastic...I'll probably wait and figure out a way to rush it but I actually can't WAIT to see it!!
I really want to see this---David Hyde Pierce was a hoot in Spamalot, and he always gives 110%.

I wouldn't say it's worth $120 (I don't think there's a single show out there worth that much), but if you shell out about $80, you probably won't regret it. Even so, discounts are always best for the frugal theatregoer.

I would gladly pay $120 or more to see Carol Channing star in yet another revival of HELLO, DOLLY! Some things in this world can't be measured in monetary terms.
I had a friend who saw it in California and loved it. I don't know what's "worth it" in your opinion, but David Hyde Pierce, Debra Monk, and Karen Ziemba supposedly put in wonderful performances. I also hear that Megan Sikora is hilarious!
Dollypop, do you want Mr. Channing in a wheel chair singing "As the Parade Passes By" for goodness sake?
How about Dollypop playing Vandegelder to Channings Dolly ? He would be in heaven
Having Channing do a revival is much like Stephanie Mills doing The Wiz in corrective Red Shoes

Private message to GYPSY1527 (no one else should read this!):
I saw Carol Channing a year ago at Feinstein's. She sang, dances, told stories and recreated some of her most famous scenes. She also did quite a bit of dancing. At the age of 86 (soon to be 87) she has more vim and vigor than many younger performers.
Oh, and did I say the lady has talent? She's got an abundance of it. She's a living miracle. She's a marvel. I worship the ground she walks on and I eat the dirt she kicks in my face. I love her beyond all measure. I would rather sit through a dozen more performances of CArol's Dolly than see some nitwit play the part. Carol creates magic on stage and I haven't seen it duplicated by anyone else in recent years.
As for you, I hope that the mailman passes you by on Valentine's Day. An empty mailbox would match your empty head!!!!!!!
Anastasia---There are plenty of reviews and opinions here on BWW from the LA run, including mine.
All you have to do is search Curtains LA.
(or if you want to read mine, search Curtains in the subject, and best12bars in the "posted by" section)
Let's keep in mind that there will be changes - any reviews posted of the LA production should be viewed with an eye to that.
I was bored and frustrated by this show. But I am sure 100's of changes will go in effect. Don't pay full price.
Thanks for all your opinions and suggestions! I appreciate it!

I saw it in LA. It was cute and fun, but I wouldn't pay $120 for it unless the changes bring a significant improvement.
Ive just seen this on a format we cant mention and have to say is wassn't great, they are gonna need a lot of changes before it goes to Broadway,DHP was great though(as always)

I want to see this as well, and I'm hoping for either TDF to have it on there during previews or student rush. I think there's a good chance for it to have rush, seeing that the last show in the Al Hirschfield had rush.
