What's up with Cary Shields?

Anyone know?

Joshua Kobak is taking over the role of Roger until Christmas...and I'm assuming Jay is still in right now...so what's up with Cary? Is he through with Rent? Is Jay taking over after Josh leaves?

I'm glad you clarified, or else I would've passed out.

I think Josh is great and I'd love to see him...I'm just wondering what happened to Cary. *shrug*

I saw Josh back in October and I really like him. Not my fav (Dan Rosenbaum holds that title) but definitely number 2. And Matt seems to calm down with him as Roger, so that's also a good thing.

I haven't heard what's up with Cary either. Apparently, he was sick and said he was coming back Monday, but this annoucement came instead. No one seems to know (or they aren't talking).

Wouldn't want to be accused of disloyalty...

Matt needs to MOVE ON. So does Cary, for that matter, and I actually like him.

I just want to be able to see him once. When I was walking to the Nederlander with this guy I met at the Wicked stagedoor, he was like "Oh my god, you're going to want to sleep with him after seeing him!" And that was the first night Cary was out.

Yeah, they've both been there way too long.

I wouldn't mind seeing Cary, because I've heard he's still fine...but Matt? Uhg.

Cary's been out for quite a while. Last I heard (from him, on his forum) that he was coming back on Monday, the 14th. That obviously didn't happen. I hope he's okay.

I was wondering the same thing. And I thought Cary was an excellent Roger. My favorite that I've seen.

Jay went on today. I thought the whole cast sounded very weak overall, low energy and not enough volume.

As far as I know, he took a month off for some much needed R&R, and then didn't come back. Maybe he's avoiding the movie 'scene'? Who knows.

They haven't had enough energy in a really, really long time.

I'm so sick of this cast having lots of talent, but just going through the motions with the show.

Hmm, I *think* I had Joshua Kobeck last time I saw the show..mid-October, he's a Roger understudy right? So that would make sense...

I definitely agree that Matt has to move on, I just don't see energy in his performance and he just looks bored. I think some stand out more than others. I personally really like Cary and I always liked Karmine as Mimi, she just had a more special connection to the original cast and it meant more to her and she put her feeling into it...and Justin Johnson, talk about a ball of energy, I adore him!

I think the new ppl in RENT tend to loose the focus of the show. I guess cause maybe none of them have been through what their characters are going through or whatnot, so maybe their hearts aren't in it. But at the same time, they're actors. they should ACT like their hearts in it, even if it ain't. also, I thought Josh was the one rumoured to be Tarzan? Or did was that just speculation.

The "new people" aren't the ones losing focus. Marcus is my favorite actor in the cast right now, he's consistently amazing in the role of Collins and he's one of the newest- and youngest- people in the Broadway cast.

The problem is the people that have been in the show for so long they've gotten lazy and phone in their performances.
