well that he appears to be....however it is just funny...and no wonder I was surprised to find out that the Roger I saw was as old as he was. Oh man, classic of me to make a mistake like that. Seriously you can't imagine how many times in the past week I have said, "he really looked different from 30 feet." HA. Maybe I can see it sometime when he is actually in it. Since I am apparently the only person in the NY metro area who has just seen Rent for the first time.
Okay, I lied, I'm back. You're certainly not the only one in the metro area! One of my best friends went for the first time this past weekend! So there =p
well glad to know that I am not the last in the metro area to see it...funny. So this is annoying me. My friend told me to call the theater and ask so I just did. And the guy who answered the phone said they don't print it if there is an understudy you have to look at a board. But of course when I went I had no reason to look. He didn't remember who it was but he said that it very well could have been Cary. Ahh the mysteries. Now I guess I have to convince someone to go with me again so that I can figure it out!
I had the "last person" feeling for a while, too. Then, I got tickets this past January for my birthday. (And we went on Cary's birthday, odd).

well lastly apparently you guys are all correct...I just saw a picture of Jay and that is who I saw...he is very handsome. What a jackass I am. Sorrry Cary.
would have been funny if this past weekend I had made my friend wait for him, I would have been thinking, "gee you look like the guy that I saw perform the previous week but nothing like the guy I looked up on the internet."

Jay was Roger when I saw it about a month ago, and I thought he was excellent.

The house staff at the Nederlander isn't so good at keeping the playbills updated with understudy slips. I have gone a number of times when the playbills had no slips, but understudies were on. The board outside is always up to date, but if you don't think to check that, you may have no idea who you're seeing.
Regardless, Jay and Cary DO look rather similar, to the point of the few times Jay went on as Mark with Cary as Roger, they put a hat on Jay so that people in the mezzanine would be able to keep them straight easier.
As far as Kobak goes, he has not gone on since October 14th, except for both shows this Sunday. He'll be fulltime Roger starting next Monday, through Christmas Eve. There has been no word on what's happening after that, including whether or not Jay will return as Roger, Cary will come back, or someone else will take on the role.
yeah I didn't think to look at the board because I had no idea I would be so smitten with the "hot guy." Oh well.I have no idea why I am so disapointed that it wasn't Cary since I knew nothing about the guy to begin with.
I dont know about that. When I went to the show October 15, the first day that Cary was out, and there was a slip announcing Jay as Roger. Likewise, I went this past Sunday and Josh was Roger and not only was there a slip in the playbill, but it was like a big sheet that listed the entire cast of the show that afternoon because Josh was Roger, so Enrico played the Steve and other characters were moved around.
If ever in doubt of who's in, take a look at the call board as you walk in, or even before the show. They change it every show according to who is in or not. thats probably the most reliable way to see whos in or not.
Btw...Josh wasnt really that bad Sunday. I had never heard him before but didnt think he was that bad at all. He's going to be full time Roger from after Thanksgiving until December 24 so he cant be that bad or else they'd have Jay do it.
The November 13th performances were done by Jay Wilkison (I was there :-P)
I figured, since Cary had said he wouldn't be back yet. How did Jay do?

Jay was really good. His One Song Glory was really, really good. However, he played the wrong chords during Your Eyes, I couldn't help but laugh :P I would say tied with Jeremy Kushnier for 2nd best Roger I've seen, still doesn't beat Cary though :)
Wow. Cary doesn't get *that* angry. I'd love to see Jay as Roger. I saw him perform at Broadway in bryant Park over the summer, and he was great.

Jay was a pretty angry Roger, the opposite of Cary, who is a more mellow Roger. However, nothing compares to Jeremy Kushnier's angry Roger, and even Sebastian's "Goodbye Love", which always made me jump because he goes ballistic.
I heard he may be in a rehab of some sort. Mental issues. I wish him well.
