Songanddance - I understand. I still believe the show is extremely relevant for today's generation, though.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It's going to be like a "carbon copy" of the Papermill Playhouse production and they got very positive reviews and reactions. That's why they chose to bring it to Broadway.

I don't think of the show as "preachy" but "moralistic". If you look at the parables as sort of Aesop's Fables they tend to be rather simplistic..."Do unto others", "Turn the other cheek", "Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house." These are basic "christian" thoughts that every child learns. It is when the LAST SUPPER/CRUCIFIXION/RESURRECTION scenes are SO over the top that the show comes off more as a Catechism lesson than a show with a simple Universal message.

Personally, I could go the rest of my life without ever seeing Godspell again, but if it MUST be revived, I hope they keep it simple. And please, no Britney/Donald Trump/G.W. Bush/American Idol jokes.

PEACE.

There will, however, be a well-placed reference to Eliot Spitzer.

I just saw a production of Godspell at Cincy Conservatory of Music. It was set in post Katrina, New Orleans at a Habitat for Humanity sign-up. The production was excellent, I didn't feel it was dated or preachy, also a good tie in for donations for Habitat. It was very simple with just a piano and some props. Some of the lesson's did feel a little on the long side, but I think it was because I needed to pee toward the end of act one.

9/10 - Next To Normal, Ensemble Theatre
9/18 - Brian Stokes Mitchell, Cincy Pop's
9/28 - Death Of A Salesman, Wright State

"Gavin Creel, Joshua Henry, Daniel Torres, and Sarah Chase are all cast. Others are cast as well but not much has been announced/revealed."

Last I heard, Gavin was the only one confirmed. I've seen comments before that Daniel Torres is part of the cast but I've yet to see a formal announcement.

Gavin, Daniel, and Joshua have all been cast. They've personally confirmed it.

Can't say I'm 100% positive about Sara Chase but I'm pretty sure she accepted a role.

They've pushed back the dates (originally scheduled for July) so there may not be a full announcement, of casting, until mid June.

They could wait and announce the cast AND theatre at the same time (they reportedly want the Booth).
