I'm going to be in the city on MLK weekend (Jan 14th-16th) and have time for 5 shows. I already have tickets to American Idiot, the final performance of next to normal and (I believe) Women on the Verge. I have two more matinee spots. What should I see? Those spots were going to be filled by Scottsboro and BBAJ, but, alas.
Of the remaining shows playing, what do you all recommend? I have never seen a play before on Broadway, so I might be open to that. Driving Miss Daisy? Time Stands Still? A long-running show that I'm forgetting about that is good? Spider-Man? I'm really not sure what I should see for the first time since I started going to Broadway. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

I highly recommend Time Stands Still.
GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES at 2nd Stage is supposed to be quite good, as well, and that starts on January 5. Cast is Pablo Schreiber (Liev's brother) and Jennifer Carpenter.

Why not see Spiderman just to say you've seen it
Also what have u seen already?
Time Stands still was beautiful and very moving
I didn't care 2much for Driving Ms. Daisy
Could have had something to do with that I was in the extrememly uncomforablte rear mezz at the Golden

I agree with Yankeefan007: highly recommend Time Stands Still! It's very accessible too, since you mentioned you've never seen a play on Broadway.
I'll be in NYC a week later and have these on my schedule: Driving Miss Daisy (could be a nice option for you too), Angels In America (not sure about ticket availability though), Spider-Man (giving it a chance), Three Sisters at CSC, Gruesome Playground Injuries and American Idiot. I think you're going right during Billie Joe's "hiatus", right?

You're right. Better off seeing Spiderman or sitting in your hotel room staring at the wall.

Not sure if ALNM will still be playing, but that's a great show.
I also loved American Idiot. Or, you could see Angels In America off B'way.

Chances are, I will see Spider-Man just to say I saw it. I may not have been alive to see Carrie, but I probably shouldn't miss the second coming. Plus, some of what I have heard of it sounds mildly appealing to me. Only if it gets a rush, though.
I am seeing American Idiot on the weekend of Billie Joe's first hiatus.
Time Stands Still definitely sounds very interesting, and I love Laura Linney. It might be a good first play on Broadway (though, I feel that I should note that I have seen many plays before, just never on Broadway). I'm just a bit worried as it looks a bit boring based on the small amount of plot synopsis I've read.
Driving Miss Daisy sounds very interesting to me mostly because I love Vanessa Redgrave and admire the work of Jones and Gaines, who I loved in Gypsy.
Unfortunately, several shows I liked and would see again are closing before I go, ALNM included.
And if Women on the Verge is indeed closing early, one of the shows I must see with my school group will probably become Memphis or La Cage second time for me.
Any others who recommend Driving Miss Daisy? I'm still very intrigued by that...
I'd even consider Lion King, though it seems there are no cheap tickets. I was hoping to get rush or very cheap seats for all of these shows.

Well, apparently I am seeing Memphis instead of Women on the Verge.
So that leaves two slots...I'm thinking Spider-Man and either Driving Miss Daisy, Time Stands Still or Women on the Verge (if it doesn't close early?). Thoughts there?

Posted: 12/1/10 at 8:58pmI LOVED Time Stands Still, so I'd definitely recommend it. I also enjoyed Memphis (unlike the majority of posters on here). If it were me, I also wouldn't say no to seeing Spiderman. Just to say that I saw it, you know?

I would totally see Time Stands Still as well. It was my first Broadway play ever after seeing countless musicals and I had an AMAZING time. I couldn't even put into words really how awesome the show was but luckily, the official website has a link to the offical youtube channel for the Play. It has two short yet funny clips from the show. :)
