What show is closing next??

Since SOOOOOOO many shows have posted closing notices and are leaving this month, what show(s) do you think will be next to close??

My money's on Fiddler (It'll probably close on Harveys last day)

Well some shows are limited runs and will be missed.
Tonight is the last performance of Laugh Whore.
Mario is indeed a brilliant performer.
I will catch it for my last time.
Sobs loudly.

Well, a few more weeks at 39% and Brooklyn will have a hard time keeping the doors open.

I fear that Gem of the Ocean is gonna really struggle for the next two months -- I really hope it survives, but it's going to be tough.

And I'd give Fiddler another six months to a year.

BKLYN's attendance '%' is weird. Everyone I know that went to see it said it was packed. (When I went, not an empty seat was in sight.) But when the week comes to an end, its at 40%. Also: its been very inconsistant with its attendance %. One week it was at 97%, the next week at 71 and soon after it REALLY dropped to 40%.

I expect that "Fiddler" will have good audiences for a while with Harvey and Andrea. When I saw the production in October, the house was at about 50% and I wondered how long it would last. This was before there was an announcement about Harvey.

Its been filling around anywhere from 50-89% of the theater for the past few months. Hopefully Harvey will draw in tourists

It's called "papering" -- they gave away tons of tickets for next to nothing so there would be warm bodies in the seats, but the show didn't actually make any money.

How bout RENT posting a closing notice soon? I love it but I think its time. Maybe itll hang in there to see if tickets go up because of the movie's release (ie Chicago)

It will definately stay open til the movie opens. Hopefully after that ticket sales will increase.

Thank god for "papering" when I was an acting student back in the late 70s because that's how I got to see a ton of Broadway shows. Of course some of them were awful and I saw a number of shows that only played for one performance or maybe for a week but there were some gems as well, like a ticket to a preview performance of "Ain't Misbehavin'".

I think Gem Of the Ocean is going to have a tough time -- I went on a Saturday performance and nearly all of the sides in the rear orchestra were empty as well as the rear/side mezzanine. It's a great show -- I hate to see it go. I'd be ok if Brooklyn went bye-bye though.

What about "Democracy"? It hasnt been having too huge of an audience and I doubt it will really find one. Is this a limited engagement anyway?

Also - don't forget that "Night Mother" is closing a week from today.

Democracy was doing quite well until about two weeks ago, due to the rave Brantley gave it in the Times (tourists in for the holidays don't seem to want to buy tickets for plays). It's not a limited engagement and barring an unexpected dip in the next couple of months, it will probably run through Tony time.

anyone know when the lion king will die down? or is that like saying wicked will die down?
I think wicked will stay for 1year more.

A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it, but all she really dreams is to make someone else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer. And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

I'd give Lion King a minimum of 5+ more years (it still sells out at full price and hasn't even begun discounting yet -- long-running shows can go another 3 - 5 years or more AFTER they start discounting .... look at Phantom). Wicked will probably last out the decade and beyond (7+ years at least).

I don't see Lion King or Wicked falling apart anytime soon.

I'm also surprised to see so many of you giving Fiddler much of a chance of lasting past Harvey. Don't get me wrong, Fiddler is one of my favorite shows, but I just don't see it lasting too long past Harvey (plus, its rumored that Woman in White is going to the Minskoff, unless that has changed)

Woman in White doesn't open until November -- 11 months from now. I think Fiddler will do fine through summer and close September-ish.

If he gets good reviews, then I would bet he'll extend into summer.

What do you all think the chances of Good Vibrations lasting? Yes it has the potential tourist draw with familiar songs...but really????

I agree that Fiddler will probably close in 6 months to a year. As will BKLYN. But I'm also wondering how long Good Vibrations and All Shook Up are going to last. Given that they haven't had their opening nights yet, what they've shown us, so far, has been mediocre and awful. Maybe they'll surprise us and stay for a while...
