Hey guys, work has had me pretty busy for the past few months, but I have a free night tonight...I know 'Sweeny' is playing at the Ahmanson and 'Mask' is in Pasadena, but is there a show out there that might be worth my while? I look forward to your suggestions, even your's Popular, hahaha.

I saw Sweeney Todd last Saturday, and it was amazing. There's also a show playing at the Kirk Douglas in Culver City that got pretty good reviews. And Joan Rivers is still at the Geffen Playhouse, if you're a Joan Rivers fan. But I would be surprised if you didn't love Sweeney.

Mask, if you can get tix (tonight's official opening night) worth seeing. 1st act needs to lose 15 mins. "Close to Heaven" great performance and evocative number, but stops the show (not in a good way) when you only want to know what is going to happen to Rocky and Rusty. 2nd Act stronger and surprisingly moving. Since it's opening night should also be some good energy in the audience.

Sweeney was great when I saw it in Miami.
It's worthwhile, see it if you can.

NY native...do you know if they tweaked the 1st act for the opening? Or is it frozen?

I was filming rehearsals for Mask yesterday (Wednesday) and they were certainly still "tweaking" the show.

I will actually have a video interview feature with the cast and director, Richard Maltby Jr., up on the site this weekend.

I'm sorry I didn't get your post in time. If you want to see a high caliber small production, I suggest "The Lost Plays of Tennessee Williams" at the LA Gay and Lesbian Center- these are 3 little known but wonderful one-acts by Tennessee Williams, beautifully directed and acted. The world premiere of "Secrets of the Trade" at the Black Dahlia, starring Tony winner John Glover is wonderful as well.

While I'm not a big fan of the Doyle Sweeney Todd production, the show is of course a masterpiece and Judy Kaye is a national treasure.

If you're an Andrew Lloyd Webber fan, I suggest a wonderful small theatre "revisal" of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Attic Theatre.

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

BB6...thank you for the late word. Plans changed and we could make a show last night, so next week I am going to hit one of the shows you recommended. Thanks.

Where is the Attic Theater? Have seen the show?
