I'm coming to New York for my NYU audition in a few weeks and I'm trying to decide what to see... Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th are my best bets for show dates because my audition is on the 12th, so I don't know what time I'll be done anyway. Any recommendations?
I've already seen:
Avenue Q
RENT
A Chorus Line
Wicked
Spamalot
Spelling Bee
Otherwise I'm open to all suggestions. I was looking into seeing Spring Awakening - I got a discount thing from Playbill. Does anyone know how the mezzanine is, beyond row D?
Thanks!
I saw Spring Awakening from the last row of the mezzanine and the view was great. Plus from that vantage point you get the effect of the design on the stage and you can see the lighting design in full.

My, personal, suggestions are Xanadu and Hairspray. By the time you come George Wendt (Norm from Cheers) will be in Hairspray as Edna. I don't know how good he is (he doesn't start until next week so no reviews exist) but the rest of the cast is great. And Xanadu - it's just a wonderful stage experience and if you can get stage seats it's even better.
Speech & Debate is also a really great show. I highly recommend it.

Xanadu!!!!! IMO, it's far superior to a recent and highly-touted show that has just begun previews. Treat yourself to a fun, fun, fun show and have a drink at Sardi's after the show (it's right next door to the Helen Hayes).
Ed, she's a junior in HS. Don't go telling the youngins to drink now.

You don't have to drink alcohol at Sardi's -- sodas are readily available. For that mattter, so is water. And I have seen many under-age kids there, not to drink, but just to enjoy the camaderie. I just thought it would be nice for her to stop by this legendary spot if she was next door. I'm not trying to encourage underage drinking.
The Drowsy Chaperone
Good luck with your audition - maybe we will run into one another at NYU and not even realize it
Ed, I was just messing with you.
If you're a fan of Flaherty and Ahrens, I suggest a ticket to "The Glorious Ones" up at Lincoln Center.
RENTingFAME, are you auditioning for Steinhardt or Tisch?
Looking quickly at the thread title I thought you meant Nov 10, 2012. I was going to suggest Phantom, Wicked and Poppins
Thanks for the replies so far, guys. And as a senior in high school, I'll only be drinking if my mom says it's okay... or if she's not there. lol. But seriously, I will stop by Sardi's if I can.
starlyricist, I'm auditioning for Tisch. Look me up, Cycospaz! lol.
I would like to reccomend JERSEY BOYS- if youre willing to wait outside for 3 or 4 hours, you can get standing room tickets in the back of the orchestra for $26.25 . Its a pretty good deal in my opinion, and is probably the show I reccomend most on Broadway right now. So if you can, definitely do that- the standing room tickets go on sale 2 hours before the show starts. I'd get there 3 or 4 hours earlier to ensure a spot since they only sell 10 standing room tickets. Yeah :)
Otherwise, I might reccomend PYGMALION with Claire Danes or YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN- I see both next weekend, so I can't exactly judge yet, but I personally think they both will be very enjoyable.
Have a nice trip, whatever you end up seeing. And good luck at your audition!
Legally Blonde.. Or Wicked.. Cuz SJB is there.. But have fun!! I'm super jealous!!
My older brother is a 1998 graduate from the Tisch School. Are you in the honors program? He was and they got trips to Europe every Winter Break.
