Lloyd Webber looked terrible. And what was going on with his mouth. Was he dribbling?
He always looks like that, unfortunately. That's why the Phantom of the Opera has his most passionate melodies. He can best relate to it, of all his scores.

Kennedy Center Honors. At first I thought he was doing the Oprah thing and trying to sing along. But then I realized his lower lip was just smacking. He looked terrible. And his eyes.. any more bags there and he could open up a Samsonite store.

I thought the same thing, DAME. Was he trying to tell someone that his face was paralyzed? Was he mumbling because he forgot the lyrics to his own songs?

I assume that Dame is talking about how at the Kennedy Center Honors. ALW was mouthing the words to his song when they sang them but then during the instrumental part he kept trying to mouth the words- eventhough there were none, he was mouthing the beat or something...it was bizzare looking.
With all the money he has you would think he would go in for a little work. And the mouth thing is just weird. He is to young to be dribbling like that. Those he have dentures or something?
What are you talking about?
They're referring to the Kennedy Center Honors, where Webber was honored and where he looked slightly...awful. His jaw was doing something strange throughout, and when he "blew kisses" to the audience it was a little jerky. He's never exactly been a looker, but I'm afraid it looks like he's losing some control over his body as he ages. And he's not even that old...
ETA: I remember now, he woke up a number of months ago with Bell's palsy. I believe he was treated but the effects must not be completely gone.
I can't wait to see the russian musical.
I wondered that too. I was concerned.
It was just weird. He also did not appear to be friendly with the others .
It looked to me like he and Speilburg were bffs.
Really? i will have to re-watch. I just couldn't get over the mouth thing.

it did look like he had bell's palsy.. it's quite scary... i had it when i was in high school... i woke up and half my face was slightly paralyzed... i didn't know what the hell was wrong with me... anyways, i felt empathetic watching him...

Sorry, I had to...
Lol - yes, I remember watching Groban hit that high note and he looked so surprised! Poor boy.

Wasn't he mouthing the lyrics to the songs? There were a couple moments where it looked like he was doing something... else, but for the most part, he was just mouthing the words. In a creepy, slightly demented-looking manner.
What happened to Groban?
yeah that really has been bugging me too. at first glance it just seemed like the guy is aging poorly, and it looked like he was just mouthing along with the lyrics. but it became apparent that this was going on even when there were no lyrics being sung and in a manner that didn't make any sense musically. that got me thinking that he might have some kind of debilitating disease. I don't really keep up on ALW news, has any illness ever been reported? how old is he anyway?
he is by no means among my favorite composers but there's no denying the mark he's made on musical theatre. it's sad to think of the possibility he may be on his way to Ronald Reagan Land so early (seeing how Reagan was a monster).

How sad and pathetic these responses are
Could you imagine the emotion of hearing works that your wrote - actors and actresses you worked with - a national honor being bestowed upon you - remembering those early years - remembering your deceased mom and dad who supported you (and were so excited to hear Memory for the first time) - Can ANY OF YOU imagine how overwhelming that must have been???
Did it look funny? Yes - but, I can appreciate the man's humanity and be happy and in awe of him for all that he's accomplished...
Congrats Andrew Lloyd Webber...

Siamese - for the most part, yes, he was mouthing the lyrics, but at some points the camera would go back to him and it'd look like he was babbling inarticulately.
dude, these responses aren't all out of spite. some of us might actually be genuinely concerned and interested to know what is going on with the guy. maybe he was overwhelmed by the honor, but he's been honored many times before- by better people than Kennedy Center. the man is a knight, for god's sake. not to discount the importance of the evening, but I doubt hearing his songs performed for the millionth time in a mediocre theatre city could account for the weirdness going on with his face.
yes it's an honor, and congrats to him. but there's nothing pathetic about people speculating about telltale signs of something distressing.

Uh - it was a National honor - combining all works of arts - Film, Pop music, classical, theatre...
And it included some a-list theatre people - Christine Ebersole is hardly second rate...
Sorry - theres no reason for the nasty tone and sarcasm of this thread in my opinion...
