What will be performed at the Tonys?

I don't think it's a good idea for DRS to perform "Dirty Rotten Number" because they have to compete with Spam's splash. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Ruprecht but it's not likely. I'm hoping they'll rewrite "Great Big Stuff" lyrics and do that.
As for Spam, I think it's a shame that they can't do the Jew song cuz DHP wasn't nominated. I would kill to see Sara perform on the Tonys. Anything with her will make me a happy gal!

Posted: 5/11/05 at 1:26amI know little about this revival of "Sweet Charity" (other then the off-stage drama), but my favorite song was always "I love to cry at weddings" and would personally piss myself if it was performed at the Tonys. Of course I know it will not be, but still, one can dream...

Posted: 5/11/05 at 8:50amPacific Overtures will absolutely not perform. Last year, Big River was nominated for Best Revival, it had already closed and everyone was pissed because CBS only would put on musical numbers from shows that were still open. So it looks like we're only going to have 6 shows performing right? They're going to get a lot of time to perform! This is gonna be awesome!

"You know what would be FANTASTIC? If Sutton could perform a number from Little Women."
Amen, BroadwayGirl, amen. Is there any possible way they might bend the rules? or at least give her a solo in the opening, or SOMETHING. I WANT TO SEE SUTTON PERFORM.
*goes and pouts in a corner until someone tells me that she will perform something* >>>>
What rules prevents Sutton from performing?

Yes, but the show wasn't nominated, so she can't perform.
And am I alone in thinking that when shows attempt to do medleys of their songs on the Tonys, it never ever works?

PCB, I heartily agree that the idea of throwing together a medley of songs, which have to be restaged, never works. This trend since the mid 80's always gets me mad, as I'd rather see a whole number. The idea that everyone in the show should get to perform is a nice idea, or that the producers basically want a mini commercial for their show, lessens the impact of the whole.
It would be a precedent if Sutton was able to perform, sorry...never happened that someone performed from a non nominated show because they were nominated...just dont want you to get your hopes up BroadwayGirl.

Posted: 5/11/05 at 11:21amLa Cage should do a number with Les Cagelles in it - they are the only reason to see the show now. Hopefully they won't have a number with Ghoulet.

I really hope something from Spamalot
#36re: What will be performed at the Tonys?
Posted: 5/11/05 at 11:27amSpamalot could do Find Your Grail or Always Look on the Bright Side of Life...

#38re: What will be performed at the Tonys?
Posted: 5/11/05 at 11:31amI feel like Spamalot could lean toward "Knights of the Round Table" it has the whole cast and is a large production number.
#39re: What will be performed at the Tonys?
Posted: 5/11/05 at 11:33amThat's right. No Chitty performance.

My Picks would be:
SPAMALOT - Find Your Grail
DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS - Great Big Stuff
LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA - Light in the Piazza or Fable
SPELLING BEE - The openining Title Number
LA CAGE AUX FOLLES - La Cage Aux Folles/We Are What We Are/I am What I am/or Song on the Sand....too many I cant decide, but I BETTER see the Cagelles!
SWEET CHAIRTY - Either Brass Band or Big Spender (although I personally dont think either one of them come off well out of context)
And PO will do a recorded performance.

CHARITY won't do BIG SPENDER unless its part of a medley because it doesn't include the main draw of this production -- Christina Applegate.
Ditto for LA CAGE. I'm sure they'll find a way to include Robert Goulet somehow.

Spamalot - Montage of Knights of Round Table, Always Look on the Bright Side & Find Your Grail. It's a good way to push for one of the leading actors to win as well as for Sara and the show to win their respective awards.
Piazza - Fable
DRS - Dirty Rotten Number
Sweet Charity - Brass Band
and numbers from La Cage & Bee, but I don't know which because I haven't seen either

Posted: 5/11/05 at 1:02pmThank you. I had the whole "and if you wonder what I am doing as I am heading for the sink" from the same SV song as my signature for a while too. I LOVE her and rediscovered this album a few weeks back.

Posted: 5/11/05 at 2:20pmThey might do a medley for DRS since Norbert, John, Sherie, and Joanna are all up for nominations. I can see them doing bits from "Give Them What They Want", "Great Big Stuff", "Here I Am", and "What Was A Woman To Do?" This, of course, depends on who they push the most to win.

Posted: 5/11/05 at 2:28pmIf there is a God in heaven, Norbert will perform "Great Big Stuff."
#47re: What will be performed at the Tonys?
Posted: 5/11/05 at 2:32pmHow long does each show get for their performance time? Because I remember that Into The Woods medley they did that seemed to go on forever.. but most performances lately seem a lot shorter.

I know...that's why I said it WOULD be fantastic. I know it won't happen. Sadly.
I think DRS should definitely do "Great Big Stuff." As much as I'd like to see Sherie and John do something as well, I think that number would work the best.
For Piazza...I hope O'Hara gets to perform.
