1. Beauty & The Beast - A true classic musical. Epic story etc. The one gripe I have with it is the song "If I can't love her". I feel that it makes the Belle & Beast relationship appear to be one out of desperation, and not that the beast is actually in love with Belle.
2. Sweeney Todd - Such an innovative revival and stellar cast. LuPone & Cerveris were robbed at the Tonys.
3. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - Such an hilarious attempt at Musical Theatre. Some songs aren't that great, but the humour makes up for it.
4. Avenue Q - Another innovative show. It really created a niche for itself and it paid off.
5. (The only other currently-playing show I can stand) Phantom of the Opera. A greatly flawed show (IMO the storyline in the film is far superior) but still a classic that shines due to the genius of Hal Prince.
Intentionally not mentioned: Lion King, Spamalot, Wicked, RENT, Mamma Mia

Here are mine:
1) Drowsy Chaperone - one of the few truly original musicals to be seen in years.
2) Spelling Bee - same as above
3) Sweeney Todd - an ambitious, inventive take that puts a new spin on a classic
4) Rent - who would have a thought a rock version of La Boheme would run for ten years and expose theater to a new generation?
5) Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - if the new cast lives up to the high standards of their predecessors, the performances are worth the price of a ticket

Assuming we are talking about current musicals:
1. Jersey Boys -- the cast is extremely talented (particularly JLY) and the music is infectious. I also love the story and the sets.
2. Wicked -- the music, the sets and the story line. I was spoiled the first time I saw the show having been front row center with Idina as Elphaba.
3. Rent -- one of my all time favorites. The music and the story
4. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels -- Just a really funny musical
5. Chicago -- The music, the choreography, everything
